the leafs are a soft team , no grit and toughness in the playoffs. Matthews is great goal scorer, but is not complete player like Mackinnon, McDavid, Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin.

Realistically, what are the Leafs’ chances of finding an equal or better replacement if Campbell walks ? A trade will cost dearly and create hole(s) elsewhere in the lineup. Who’s better than Campbell in the free agency market ?

It’s very likely that Campbell will get upwards of 5mil per as an ufa and without major shredding of payrolls there’s just no cap room to resign Campbell.

Mrazek’s contract is unmovable without giving up draft picks or prospects; Holl, Kertfoot, Sandin and/or Engvall’s contracts may have to be jettisoned to make room or as trade baits but their replacements from within are either inferior or not ready.

Will either Nylander or Marner be part of a major trade ? Dubas has a verbal promise that he’d not trade Nylander as long as he’s the GM and if Marner is traded I think 99% chance Matthews will sign somewhere else in 2 years and you’re losing one of the best play makers in the game.

Having played a competitive series against the Lightning have convinced a lot of fans that this team is close but I’m not as optimistic. They’re probably in a 2nd tier group of a bunch teams in the conference alone ( Carolina, NY Rangers, Florida, Boston, Washington ) behind the Lightning and the Leafs will have a hard time beating any of these teams in the first round next year with a weakened lineup or inferior goaltending.

Liljegren gets a extension, as Geitz Romo would say, "isn't that amazing Petey"!

If they keep Campbell, it will be same old, same old. They've been stockpiling young goalies for awhile now, they can't all be stiffs, one of Kallgren,Woll, Petruzelli and McKay has to step up. Might as well roll the dice, Matthews is leaving in two years anyway.

If the loser leafs keep losing in the 1st Round, Matthews will be gone in 2 years I guarantee that lol, ex Leafs players have good chance winning the cup in the 31 other teams lol

Dubas can circumvent the cap but placing Tavares on LTIR (reoccurring symptoms of concussions) and bring him back in the playoffs. Tampa did with Kucharov.

That would be a great move and they could also pass the captaincy to Matthews. I doubt very much Tavares would go along with it though, unless he does have reoccurring symptoms from the Perry collision.

Leafs trade Mrazik and the 25th pick to Chicago for the 38th pick. Freed up $3.8M in cap space.

Honestly I like the move. As one of the announcers said they're in "win now" mode and this opens up more opportunities to make more moves.

I agree what are their options if Campbell moves on. I feel like this perhaps helps resign Campbell for this season.

Once upon in ancient times, trades were made based solely on talent levels. Leafs give up a player and get a (theoretically) worse draft pick to have a lower team payroll.

The only talent involved in this trade was the lack thereof displayed by Mrazek.

Get rid of the salary cap, this is the biggest scam to hockey.

Can't argue. In theory, the concept sounds good, but it results in ridiculous tactics to circulate the restrictions imposed by the salary cap rule. Ergo, this trade.

In a free-market economy teams should be allowed to spend as much as they want on talent.

Leafs are a good team that can't win the big game at key points, but they have Cup potential.

not always sure...
They already did that and threatened to destroy small market teams…if they do it again say goodbye to Ottawa, Winnipeg again and others…
...but who wouldn't want to watch the New York Rangers win the Stanley Cup 9 out of every 10 years in a six team league?

Glam's argument to scrap the salary cap can be summarized as:
"How the fuck can we expect Dubas to compete with the other 31 G.M.'s when he has to play by the same rules as they do? It's not a fair fight."
