It's got to be a publicity stunt, anyone with a sliver of a brain would know that he wouldn't get a single sniff by pulling a move like that.
Is this on his own or does he have an agency repping him?
He has some weird agent guy who's on a par with Don King mixed with Al Sharpton

He never wanted to play. An employed millionaire is not much of a story. He might now, on account of everybody calling him an idiot. Well, at least some vets got their mortgages paid up out of this whole fiasco.

It's commendable the NFL is so generous to the workers its teams buy and sell among themselves.
Someone is putting a gun to the players' heads and makes them play in the NFL? They can go work somewhere else, if they feel so mistreated.

All professional team sports are like that yet so many people want to play. Could it be because of the amount of money they make and could never dream about making that amount in any other career?

Question(s). Is this a part of the normal route for an unemployed free agent to offer his services to NFL teams? How often is this type of workout arranged, that is for a single player and with all these conditions? Is it routine? If not, why would the NFL make this arrangement in this particular case? Are they just being nice guys and going out of their way to give him a spotlight or did his representatives request this or are they covering their collective ass in case of a lawsuit?

It just seems to me (I have no facts, just my intuition) that if this is a unique occurrence they were attempting to suck him into something that had nothing to do with his best interests.

It's just a PR stunt. All this really does is allow the NFL to basically say "Hey, we're not racist and there was no collusion. We even put on a show case for him to try and help him".

Yes, but....

If he showed up to their practice and they said "Fuck you, Colin. This was just a big joke!", then he could walk the incident into every sports talk show and panel in north America and get a shit load of sympathy. He could portray himself as an honest guy who did all that was asked of him and was mocked and screwed over yet again by the big $ pricks.

But by playing his own weird bullshit, he has left people saying "This guy is not dependable. He is just a freak show."

He's just milking his 15 minutes into an hour. He learned that he can make money and gain cred by being a huckster and prefers that over potentially getting his skull bashed in on a football field. I really do hope that some good comes eventually out of this circus. Right now it's just a narcissist basking in the limelight.
I partially blame Nike for lionizing this guy.

So many of my TERB brothers love facts but are quick to piss on Kap even though the NFL have been screwing him for the last 3 years. There was so much bullshit done by the NFL leading up to this workout and I'm disappointed that only a couple of you see it because you disagree with his political stance.

But even if the NFL is posturing and has no genuine intent to ever sign this guy to play ever again, wouldn't it have been smart for him to show up for the practice and maybe even fly in a couple of his favourite receivers at his own expense. He'd look like a million bucks for doing that. I'd love him for it and if the league said "Thanks, Kaepernick. But we're really not interested", CK would have 110% of my support from that time on, come hell or high water. And I wouldn't be in a minority either. His stock would soar.

So why did he boycott the audition?!

A few points and don't get me wrong. Some of it I agree with you

1 -NFL usually has these types of workouts on Tuesday, they made it Saturday where scouts are looking at Collage players and Teams are preparing for Sunday.
2 - They told him last second. The NFL told the media before contacting Kap.
3 - Kap asked for a list of who would be there and the NFL refused.
4 - Kap asked if his team could also video the workout. The NFL refused
5 - The NFL added in a new clause in the waiver basically saying he could never sue

Kap could have done a lot of things differently I agree, but the NFL made this a stunt.

the talk going around was that he (his agent) didnt like some of the wording of the waiver the NFL wanted him to sign
so he basically told them (by holding his own workout when and where HE chose) no thanks I'll hold my own come if you want

The NFL can now say..well we tried .

It seems like a double own goal. He was old news, why would the NFL draw attention to him. He’s old news and being pulled back into the spotlight, why remind everyone what a dick you are.

I haven’t watched a full NFL game in 3 years, I’ll stick with college b-ball and football while I wait for MLS to start up again.

My understanding is that this was the standard NFL waiver clause saying that he couldn't sue if he was injured on the field. Am I missing something?

I believe that's what he's been doing for the past year or so.

If the owners had no interest in him, there'd have been no event to report. 'Owner' is an interesting word, given the slavery context you say is so far-fetched. Back in the days of that Peculiar Institution Southern plantation owners made the same argument you're using, about their contented slaves not running.

Ok. CK responds by saying "Hold it in a week's / 2 weeks' time.

3 - Kap asked for a list of who would be there and the NFL refused.
Why would he care?

4 - Kap asked if his team could also video the workout. The NFL refused
Why would he care?

See my post just above. Plus, my understanding is that he's already settled his litigation w the NFL and can't sue any more for that anyway.

Kap could have done a lot of things differently I agree, but the NFL made this a stunt.
What I said above. If the NFL are just fucking w CK, he can walk that around to every sports show in North America and they'll all agree he was badly treated. The NFL just makes itself look even worse!
