Just looking for everyone's opinions on this years class. To me the Sedin's getting in first ballot is wrong. Soft hockey players and career stats not that impressive. If these two are in Pierre Turgeon should be in he was a better player then these two.

Great point mate - I actually had no issue with the twins but I do like your reference of Pierre Turgeon. I would def. consider Pierre to be inducted over the twins first now!

I don’t necessarily have an issue with any of the players making the hall at some point.

But getting in on first time eligibility should be reserved for more special players than Sedin. They should not have been inducted for at least a few more years.

I agree with the philosophy of making lower tier guys wait i while. I think the timing for Alfedsson’s election was fine for example.

As a Sens fan I'm ecstatic over the selection of Daniel Alfredsson.

He was as tough of a two way player as there was in his generation and performed well internationally as well.

With the demise of his long time nemesis Eugene Melnyk it's time for the Sens organization to bring him back into the fold now and move the franchise forward.

The building of a new arena at the Lebreton Flats site is now being seriously revisited so there's hope now for the future.

I thought the Sedins had better career numbers than that...but...they aren't the worse inductees.

Rick Vaive before the twin sisters. Vaive scored 50 goals on the worst team and worst owner in the NHL.

I agree. It would add to the prestige of the honour and make the moment larger for them

I had to laugh when I heard Luongo being interviewed. "I can't believe it. It's surreal. I haven't had a chance to process it yet." Gimme a fucking break. So phoney.

He knew at least 2 or 3 years before he retired that he was a lock. Please spare me the fake shock and total surprise. "I need time to process it." Baaaarf. He's already had 8 years to process it. Great goalie but, mind you, I never considered him the sharpest set of blades in the equipment room.

Let’s also the. add John Ogrodnick, Rick Kehoe, Mike Bullard, Charlie Simmer, Al Secord, Guy Chouinard, Danny Gare, Jacques Richard, Wayne Babych, Hakan Loob, Dennis Maruk, Brian Bellows, Pierre Larouche, Blaine Stoughton, Stephane Richer. They scored 50 as well and some multiple times.

Many guys scored 50 goals in the bloated goal scoring era of the late 70s and 1980s. Many of those above on not very good teams. Scoring 50 at that time was nothing hall worthy in itself.

You can’t compare stats from the 1980s to the 2000s and 2010s. Team scoring was 40% higher in many of those years.

I never completely understood the whole 'they shouldn't get in on the first ballot' argument. Either you had a HOF career, or you didn't. Sure there are some players who are legitimately on the fence, and as the years pass, different arguments are made that change the minds of some voters. The Sedins don't need additional arguments, IMO. Their international accomplishments can't be ignored, and I think that combined with their NHL careers is enough to get into the hall. Somehow Pierre Turgeon is always brought up as the comparable because he didn't get in. Maybe that was a mistake? Regardless, it shouldn't be used against other players getting in.

Bob Gainey and Guy Carbonneau played in the high-scoring era...neither came close to a 30-goal season.

Paul Henderson didn't have a Hall of Fame career...
Given his scoring heroics during the Summit Series, how is it Henderson has not been voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame? Does the scorer of the winning goals in the final three games of this precedent-setting and historic hockey event really not deserve HHOF inclusion?

It is not the Hockey Hall of Lifetime Achievement. It is the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Others have taken note. Henderson’s winning goal in Game Eight was voted “sports moment of the century” by The Canadian Press. Henderson has been inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame twice, as an individual as well as with the players of the Summit Series.

In 2013, Henderson was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame.

Henderson was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2012 and two years later a Member of the Order of Ontario. Yet somehow he is not deemed worthy of inclusion into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

On Oct. 3, 1989, Vladislav Tretiak was inducted into the HHOF. Make sense?

All great points.

It's time to give him his recognition while he is still alive before it is to late.

It's not always about the summation of the stats.

As it was pointed out to me many years ago, it's the Hockey Hall of Fame. And famous Paul Henderson is!

I'm pretty sure that there are specific criteria laid out for induction, not just being famous.

But I'd like to see him in there.
