The best way to stop coronavirus deaths and severe illness is to roll out vaccines quickly. However, the researchers concluded that the chance a vaccine-resistant strain will emerge is highest in a scenario that combines three conditions: First, a large portion of a population is vaccinated, but not everyone. Second, there's a lot of virus circulating. And third, no measures are in place to curb potential viral transmission from vaccinated people.

Before the rise of Delta, which is now responsible for more than 80% of US coronavirus cases, that situation wasn't a concern because research suggested vaccinated people weren't likely to transmit other versions of the virus. But according to a CDC study released Friday, vaccinated people may transmit the Delta variant just as easily as the unvaccinated.

On the positive side, deaths are decoupled from the terrifying “delta” variant, so while it does appear that cases are skyrocketing via bunk PCR test, people are not dying.

Credit vaccines, credit natural immunity, credit the virus mutating…whatever. This is good news.

Interesting. This argues for maintaining heavy restrictions (masking, social distance, etc) until virtually everyone is vaccinated.

For increased lockdowns? I doubt it will have any effect at all and is just a placebo effect

Dr. Kieran Moore said Ontario would start releasing the numbers “soon,” and that was on July 27.

I strongly suspect you are wrong, that we will start to get these numbers “soon” and that the number of people being infected and/or hospitalized will be overwhelmingly high for the unvaccinated.

I think we’ll see over 95% of COVID deaths in the province will have been among unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people, at least recently.

I’d invite you to ‘stake a claim’ on what will end up being released, but don’t imagine you want another post we can point to when you turn out to be wrong

Get vaccinated and wear your mask were the themes.

It’s a bummer that we need to spend $64 million trying to reach the vaccine hesitant.

I will respectfully disagree with this statement. I'd like to see my tax dollars go to much worthier causes, please and thank you.

But we already invested so much in their special education needs.

I’d hate to see it all go to waste now that they’re reading and writing at almost an adult level

Yes. Clearly, you can count to 7 and possibly beyond.

This type of change is bound to take time.

Regional PH officials, and the barely trained let alone qualified people doing contact tracing do not have access to your full OHIP file, for obvious reason around privacy.

It’s no different than the people at intake in vaccination clinics not knowing whether soon to be vaccinated have tested positive or had another vaccination recently, even after you give them your health card.

In-order for PH to start reporting on this, a process re-design is needed where some elements of PH would be given permissions necessary to gain access to your vaccination record.

Depending on regional system needs, that might involve system software updates, re-training of current contact tracers, or hiring new staff to focus exclusively on this new task.

Otherwise, disclosure of vaccination status would be entirely based-on the honour system, which PH knows to not work as they’ve been dealing with faked contact information for over a year.
