Forever a Cowboy
I think it was great and very fitting that Emmit got his 1 day contract so he could retire as a Cowboy. Classy move by an unclassy owner.
As for Emmit's place amongst the greats? He defintely benefited from having played the majority of his years on a great offensive team- though he certainly contributed alot to that. But I think having a great QB and WR on your side greatly takes off some of the pressure to make the do-it-all plays on your own. Constantly playing behind a great Offensive Line didn't hurt either.
He wasn't as rugged and brutish as Jim Brown, who was a 1 man wrecking machine. Sweetness had more agility and finesse. Barry Sanders had more agility, finesse and alot more speed. But with his prodigous career total numbers and his uncanny ability to make the big plays in the big game, Emmit would still have to rank in the top 5 or 6 of all time in my book.
