If it took 3-4 months of quarantine to reverse the trend started by a dozen or hundred cases, then it is reasonable to expect that the new cases will grow exponentially compared to the previous numbers.

It seems that the virus has not "gone away" with the warm weather and sunshine, nor has it become less contagious etc. And it seems that the compliance with infection mitigation measures such as wearing a mask and social distancing has taken political sides so many people are not complying.

Today I dropped into a Winners to buy a short sleeve shirt for the afternoon. I ran in without my mask and saw there were few people in the store. So I went directly to the rack and just as I started to look, this fat fuck couple wheezed their way RIGHT BESIDE ME SUCH THAT SHE WAS RUBBING UP AGAINST ME! FFS how stupid and ignorant. Rather than saying anything, I faked a little cough down my chest and into my shirt and walked away. Scared the shit out of both of them! But if one were infected, that is all it would take.

That happened to me as well. I noticed just a handful of cars in a parking lot of a store so I ran in maskless. There were less than 10 people in the Home Hardware store but they were all congregating near the checkout which is where I had to be because of in-store pickup. They had taped where you needed to stand for pickup and my spot happened to be in the middle of an aisle of products. Some guy walks in maskless, comes up my aisle within a couple inches of me. He does a u-turn, bumps into my shoulder, turns and says sorry as his face is probably within a foot of mine. ? I always have my mask now.

I hope with the impending second wave, masks will be fairly commonplace and tracing will be much better than during the first wave and the reduced travel and border crossings will mitigate the second wave somewhat.

With what we see are happening in the States with their 2nd wave, I believe if we are vigilant and do our part to continue flattening the curve (distancing, hygiene, mask) we would 100% be in better shape than what is happening down south.

It's becoming like, don't do what they (US) are doing, and we'll be fine.

Is the states having a second wave or (at least most states) simply the continuation of the first?

Hard to imagine what some of the most troubled states will be like this winter.

I'm very thankful to be in Canada.

The US thanks to Trumpfart never made it out of the first wave. The second wave will be in the fall when flu season kicks in and everyone is indoors maskless because it's just not cool or republican to wear a mask.

I believe part of the 1919 second wave because a mutation stuck that made it more dangerous. Hopefully that won't happen with this and we'll just be stuck with people who think masks are an infringement of their rights.

And the states is in the 1st wave. Their 'freedoms' kept their numbers from dropping enough for this to be considered a 2nd wave.

Nope

1- govt realizes the knee jerk reaction to cripple economy was stupid and wont overreact again
2- higher base percentage of people alr exposed will have immunity
3- very unlikely next flu virus mutation will be anywhere near as infectious

There was no second wave of 1919 (there was not even a mutation) the monthly death counts were pretty flat
The main reason for the spike depending on who you believe was secondary bacterial infection after the Influenza was contracted (some estimate as high as 85% of the alleged influenza deaths had nothing whatsoever to do with influenza)

Kinda how we claim today the covid scam so nice analogy to bring up

All pandemics in history had a second wave that was worse.

But......they didn't have the technology and resources we have now.

In the States 2.5 million out of 330 million have been infected. That means 327.5 million do not have antibodies/immunity. Your percentage is miniscule.

3- very unlikely next flu virus mutation will be anywhere near as infectious
You can't say this without knowing what the mutation(s) will be. Please enlighten us as to how you know that it is not only unlikely but VERY unlikely.

He's a salesman so he will attempt to make his imaginary facts fit the scenario.

Hang on. So your theory is that there was NO second and third wave of the 1918 flu.
Instead, there were spikes of deaths that had nothing to do with the flu. They just happened to happen in people who were infected by the flu.
But unlike the scientists in your paper, you feel all those pneumonia deaths would have happened without the flu?
It's all a giant coincidence?

Teejay is an irrational thinking person.
Very high majority of his non factual posts are pulled out of thin air just to argue with others. There are a few of these irrational, loud and ignorant posters here.
He’s tried to claim multiple times an increase in number of deaths from 0-1, or 0-5 is a significant increase and a spike in numbers while at the same time trying to claim an increase in number of deaths from 0-48 or
0-69 as not a significant increase and label it a decrease or flattening of the curve. Clueless

There was no second wave of 191...
Good to see you get you historical facts from the same place as your scientific ones.

People who actually study it see 4 waves happened (early 1918 - spring 2020) and there were seemingly 2 major mutations, one that made it more deadly and one that later made it less of a problem.

Pandemics have left their mark on world history for over 2,000 years. We now have the means to fight back and strategize a response to potential pandemics but regrettably and perhaps tragically, national governments are empowering provincial/state governments to implement precise, defensive tactics that are provided by regional departments of health, who are not asked and are unequipped to consider what those tactics will cost.

It's weakening, most people barely have symptoms. I read that 20% infected could mean herd immunity.
