Often we do. Unfortunately, many people take kindness as a sign of weakness and try to take advantage of nice guys.Le Voyeur said:

There are some things that many of us just won't do to get ahead. Not because we can't, but because we believe it's not right. The bastard that does not care who or what he hurts in his progress will often get farther up the ladder than we do.
It's true that such ruthless behaviour may not pay in the long run, but there's always some other bastard ready to replace the fallen dirt-bag when his time comes.
Does that mean we should all be self-centred and selfish. I don't think so. I'm happy to be modestly successfull and proud of my choices. I'd rather live this way than be fabulously rich and riddled with guilt.

I am not saying I am a "nice guy" ... but I do think of the "Golden Rule" when I do things.
Plus, although I am not a "nice guy", I do try to be ethical and moral whenever I have to deal with another person or issue ...
But, if I encounter some @sshole, then, I wont be afraid to use some Sun Tzu's "Art of War" or be a Machievellian ... hehehe

The me first types may get the parking spot, the girl (temporarily) and sometimes the job or business but few of them win in the end. Nice guy's finishing last is one of the great myths.
A selfish attitude eventually turns off friends, lovers and colleagues. The world can be very lonely and sad for a self centered person.

Nice guys are often in a disadvantage position. But they are usually the most knowledge and productive people in the society. The others simply spend too much of their time thinking of how to destroy their competitors and bystanders in order to advance themselves for wealth and power.

There may be fewer but the quality of the women you attract is probably higher. I don't meant to put down women who are attracted to jerks - there are lots of them and many are quite nice themselves. Most eventually wake up, after a lot of pain, and realize they are doing it to themselves for whatever reason - I'll leave that to the psychologists.Joker said:

IMHO whether or not nice guys finish last, depends a lot on age - youngsters may be drawn to the "wilder" type of person, whereas with maturity comes some semblance of intelligence (at least I hope so), and people judge according to character and personality not appearance.

Nah ... I am currently 24 and I love intelligent and wise women. I prefer an average looking gal who is intelligent and wise over a really hot looking babe who is as dumb as a piece of crap.
Like I said in another thread, if she is dumb, even if she's like Pam Anderson ... I'd still kick her outta bed ... hehe ... intelligence turns me on ... along with character and attitude ...
Unfortunately, the girls that I meet only wants to have fun ... and that's why I am more attracted to "older women" ... besides, I find older women to be more attractive, sexier, and more open about sexuality and generally "have their shit together" ... LOL

In the real world nice guys do finish last, especially with women. It seems that it is always the as*holes that get the girls, however, the opposite applies when paying for your pleasure. As the saying goes, treat a lady like a whore and a whore like a lady and you can't go wrong. To be honest, I'm not 100% sold on the first part of that saying (I guess that makes me a nice guy) but the last part is definately true.

It really is a complicated question when you think about it.
In relationships, I am sorry to say, this may be true. Don't kid yourself either about the money factor. There's nothing worse that being sized up for financial benefit. After the initial infatuation, you wind up used and abused.
In real life, my best relationships have been with so called "sleazy" women, perhaps becasue I have had the best time and there is no bullshit involved.
I really honestly think, however, be true to yourself and treat everyone well. Take the extra time to do so. If it haunts you in the short term, it will end up paying huge dividends in the long term.
I am often appalled at the way we treat each other. Have you ever seen a grown man freak out to a poor 16 year old kid working behind a fast food counter?
Anyway, I digress. Quick answer, in the short term, or the "flash" term, yes you do lose with women by being a nice guy. However, it is long term, and the person can get to know you, then you win huge by being a nice guy.
