I got the following email this week finally had time to look at it. Pay me $75 / hr from EI?

Yes they want my personal info during Zoom meeting with 3 people. I got screwed by CERB when it should have been EI-Un-employement during Covid.
There we attachment papers with it, other to sign a privacy clause.

I think I will go to my closest EI office and find out.

Invitation to participate in a research study on Employment Insurance (EI)

What is the purpose of the study?

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) is looking into better understanding
how people may access and experience Employment Insurance (EI) services. This
research is part of the project initiative to transform and modernize how ESDC is delivering
benefits and services to Canadians across all service channels.
A research team within ESDC is conducting a study on the EI service experience, focusing
on self-employed clients renewing their EI application, when their Benefit Period is open
(active or inactive), as well as applying for Compassionate Care and Family Care Benefits.
The goal of this study is to better understand how the new design supports you in managing
your benefit application.

Who will be participating?

The research team is conducting this study with people who are receiving or have received
EI benefits in the past, from across the country to share their experiences with services
related to accessing their benefits.
This study will be conducted by members from a research team that may include a mix of
ESDC staff and external consultants who specialize in usability testing and user
experience research.
The research sessions will be led by Cagil Ocal, the lead usability researcher for this
study.

How will this study be conducted?

This study will be conducted in the form of one-on-one moderated sessions (usability
testing). Each session will take about 60 minutes, remotely via video conference tool
Microsoft Teams.

During a session, members of the research team may be present to listen to and take
notes of the feedback you share on your experiences. The information and feedback you
provide to the researchers may be used to improve programs and services. With your
consent, the session will be recorded, and information captured by recordings and
transcriptions will be analyzed by the researchers involved. The results of the analysis will
be compiled in research reports and presentations, ensuring your identity remains
confidential.

what's the email address.
that's the first thing I look at before blocking it.
From my standpoint $75 bucks is not worth the risk.

Quick google search says scam. Check the email sender address for one and call the office for two. Unsubscribing is usually done via automated services or would be done via the SC portal. Not by an email reply. No phone number is attached which is suspect and to be honest, SC doesn’t email. Like anything. CRA will message you that you have a message on their portal but SC doesn’t email.

I’m going with scam.

The way these statements are phrased alone raises red flags for me. They are presenting it as if it's a game show, which I don't believe any government body would do, so I'm guessing scam.

I typed "Participate in Service Canada Usability Research" + Service Canada on Google, and I found this : https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/campaigns/improve-services.html

It's linked to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada though.

Here's another link : https://digital.canada.ca/2025/02/04/service-canada-labs-testing-ideas-for-better-services/

"One example is the work being done on the Benefits Finder and Employment Insurance (EI) systems, informed by research from the Benefit Delivery Modernization (BDM) team at ESDC."

Look at the email address, they say which one is egit.

Usually they do this with a survey but I think this is a legitimate study. Did a google search on the head researcher name Cagil Ocal, she is indeed a researcher with Service Canada. If you do participate do not give any confidential information like SIN# or banking information.

Scam according to office, but since I didn't trust the office I google.

The letters were well done but the give away was there was not signature of the minister department.
The attached letter had colours and Gov't doesn't do that.

I did go in the lady check her computer and nothing came up.
BUT...
I check google and it seems legit but not with that email address.

Legit here...

and

If you get an email about testing
If you get an email from IRCC.CEUsability-UtilisabiliteEC.IRCC@cic.gc.ca inviting you to test a product with us, it’s legitimate. Go ahead and book a session!

IF you see post # 10 they are not legit. Above is.

Two posts above! I don't know how companies and organizations can contact people today to participate in things. Everything sounds suspicious with all those scams, and we are warned everyday!
