Neil Peart. I've been a RUSH fanatic since 1977.
Jim Henson. When I was a small kid I was glued to the tv when Seasame Street came on. Very influential in my life.
All the deceased cast members of the show Barney Miller. I've seen each episode a dozen times and could watch them dozens of more times.
P.S.: I'm assuming we're only talking about celebrities and not family members.

The biggest one for me was MCA of the Beastie Boys. Those guys are bigger then life for me so when MCA passed, I was in shock and disbelief. It literally took a few years to sink in.

Can't really speak for the OP but I think he's referring to people outside of friends and family.
I'm surprised Cornell didn't hit me a bit harder, but for some reason it just didn't. Maybe because I wasn't really listening to Soundgarden anymore.
As BBL mentioned MCA was a tough one, being that I was a Beastie Boys junkie growing up.
I'll add another couple of rappers - Guru from Gang Starr and Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest. Guru was my favorite rapper so I knew it would hit me hard.
