It depends what the power source is. HINT: If it runs off the cigarette lighter then you need to plug it into THAT - NOT the power line that runs into the cigarette lighter.

If you mean to wire the power source discretely from a power line underneath the dash, then you will probably need an auto-electric place to find a suitable wire, then to connect either a USB or a cigarette lighter connection under there.

But if you intend to use an existing USB or cigarette lighter outlet, then you should be able to snake the line around yourself, tucking it under the interior trim. Depends on your aesthetic standards, I guess.

I did mine myself, it runs from the USB inside the armrest, where I drilled a hole to let it escape to the side under the passenger seat, then under the trim by the door, under the side trim under the dash, then under the trim around the window, to the dash-cam. It is invisible except for where it emerges from the interior trim at the top of the windshield, with a couple of inches of cable there. Under the trim I actually jammed my used chewing gum in there to hold it in place. My rear view mirror blocks that view for me, but not the passenger.

Hardwire means non-usb, so he wants to wire it to a fuse box.

Cigarette lighter hardwire will not allow for parking mode. It works but if your cam has parking mode its ideal to record any possible shocks from hits etc while parked. Have it installed once and be done with it.

You can do it yourself if you're not too uncomfortable with wiring and can watch youtube videos, all you need is a wiring kit.
High-end vehicle - not prying the dash, etc... :ROFLMAO:

What gets me why haven't car manufacturers started to install them in the factory yet

If you have a North American or a car of Asian decent , its pretty easy to run the wire across the headliner and then pull the rubber seal out , installed the wire and reinstall .

As for under the dash there is usually a hush panel that with a screw driver and can run the wires there and up to cig lighter ..

European cars are a bit tougher with the headliner .

lol
I guess it's better to pay someone else to do it then and not see them do it, it's the only way to hide the wire.

Chances are pretty good there's a video out there for your vehicle, I'd take a look first, you never know right?

As to why car manufacturers don't, no idea, it would be a good idea.
Maybe it's the extra wiring/harness etc? Who knows.
