I have said before. The West has been complacent compared to other countries developing EV’s. With the exception of Tesla, the world will move on without us. First to market has massive advantages…

But the West still profits from fossil fuels… and those profits still influence politicians and media. You can see a good contingent on this board fight progress tooth and nail telling us over and over again it’s not feasible. And yet, it’s going to happen with or without them.

I think some of the European auto makers are already setting up shop in China. They build the batteries so why not have the cars built there too?

China will profit more from fossil fuels. It is cheap electricity produced
by dirt coal burning power plants that has made driving EV economical
there. And china is not striving to be world's top exporter of EVs to fight
climate change but to earn our money. Canada will have to continue trading
our oil and natural gas with China for cheaper EVs.

You missed the point though. Yes, China is burning massive amounts of fossil fuels today. But they are also researching and developing renewable technology at a much fast pace. Gm, Ford, & Dodge are about to left in the dust in global car markets. And We will eventually be off fossil fuels. At the rate we are going China will be the leader in Green energy tech as well.

There are several reasons why they will dominate the EV field in the future. They have the manufacturing cost advantage. They make a competitive product now, and it is being sold in Europe and Australia where gas prices are high. They sell a product that is in great demand at the lower end of the market. Electric cars are cheaper to run and require less service, that is the reason legacy car manufacturers resisted building EVs for so long. They are even buying their own lithium mines so as not to depend on outside suppliers.

Sad part, the Western executives that pushed politicians so hard in the 80’s to allow them to set up shop in China had no clue how it would lead to our decline. Short term profits!

Now as tech changes, this guy is right, we don’t have the manufacturing capacity or economic advantages to compete.

I saw a documentary years ago of how the North American manufacturers claimed that it was unfair for foreign car manufacturers to dump their cars in the USA and Canada and profit overseas. They wanted a level playing field and insisted that any outside car manufacturers set up shop here. They did just that.

When the Honda plant opened in 1982 there were protest. Mr. Honda was not allowed to go to the plant inauguration by car, the state police were afraid the crowd would kill him. He had to arrive by helicopter. TV crews interviewed people that voiced the opinion that Americans should buy American products, years later they found some of these protesters working at the plant.

There was a US Congressman that wanted to pass a bill to prevent Chinese cars from entering into the USA. He asked the question in Congress, " Would you be afraid if all cars in America was Made in China? All computers in America are made in China now" ! This was 10 - 12 years back. The world will soon be driving cars made in China. North America will be the last EV adopters because gas is cheap, but for how long? BYD is making busses in the USA.

I don’t care who will make or dominate EV. I don’t care whether it will be Chinese, American, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Indonesia, Russian, Malaysian, Canadian or whoever race and nationality.

I’m a consumer. I just want a good, reliable and affordable EV to use.

Similarly, for an escort, I don’t care what’s her nationality and race. As a consumer, I just want an escort to be hot, beautiful, thin with big tits, reliable, has good hygiene, provides great service and affordable. LOL

Why is it that over the decades since the deluge of imports of manufactured
goods from China began they offer no competition to cars exported from Europe,
Japan and those produced in North America? China did not have the industrial
capacity developed to produce vehicles on a massive scale until recently. Now
that they are ready to profit from exporting cars to the global automobile market
it is only logical to capitalize on the fastest growing area which is EV. China is going
to dominate world's EV industry not because they have acquired or developed the
most advanced renewable energy technology. They could not even produce their first
aircraft carrier entirely from scratch at a time more than 7 decades after Japan
built the carriers deployed in the attack of Pearl Harbor. Global EV market is to be
dominated by exports from China simply because they are (relatively) cheap just like
other made-in-China stuff you bought in Walmart and Canadian Tire. EVs are expensive
to manufacture here in North America!

When you give Chinese companies the money they can manufacture some really high quality merchandise. All computers, Cannon and Nikon cameras, Apple I-pads and computers and a large percentage of cell phones are manufactured in China. According to the Electric Viking channel on Youtube he is very impressed with the quality of Chinese EVs he has tested.

After WWII Japan was in the same situation as China was 15-20 years ago. Japan exported some very cheap low quality goods after the war. In the late 60s and early 70s the Japanese government set up a government department to prevent low quality goods for export. It took a few decades, but Japanese goods earned a good reputation for quality and reliability.

Many luxury good brands like Gucci, LVMH, Prada and Versace from Italy and France cheat to make you think their goods are 100% made in Europe. They pay for quality materials that are made in China to their specifications where the parts are cut, Then they import the part to Europe as well as Chinese workers to assemble the goods.

China is forced to move into EV due to energy dependence on fossil. Look what happened in the last 3 years between Australia and China.

China is forced to move into EV by wants of profit. They will be burning more
coal to power their fleet of EVs. Earnings from EV exports will be recycled
into imports of more fossil fuel from the Middle East as well as from the west
while they are desperately weaning off oil to fight climate change.

Where do you think they will get their electricity from for those EV? Fossil fuels are burned to provide steam for electric generators. Otherwise, they could use nuclear energy. Do they have enough hydroelectric capacity?

One of the issues is that manufacturing offers good paying jobs. It's not for eveyone, but I tend to vote my wallet when I buy a car. I can find products that suit me, which are made in Canada.
