With respect to the link No. 1 (that interestingly I posted in 2013), the GOOD NEWS is that Stelco was reborn out of the ashes.

I haven't followed the story exactly, however, I believe that a group of investors bought the Hilton Works and re-opened as Stelco.

They are publicly trades on the TSX and their shares are doing quite well.

But I agree with you, China is truly an evil empire and the west should do everything in its power to no longer due business with them. The problem is that too many fat cats in the west have made too much money trading with China and its cheap labour. (China was the one thing I was fully on side with Trump about. He was fully correct on his assessment of China.)

People love to paint Russia as the big enemy. But I never believed that the Russians were going to attack North America. I always figured it would be China and no, more than ever, I believe that to be true. Watching things unfold in Taiwan, Hong Kong, I figure in the next 10 years there will be a war between Taiwan and China. It will be ugly. Worse still, the relationship between China and the Philippines is getting more and more tense ever day. It's coming.
That was the one thing I agreed with Trump on too... however, his Economic adviser was Peter Navarro, who wrote "Death by China". It was fluke that Jarred found and recommended him. I believe he heavily influenced the trade war, but Trump didn't accomplish anything with it.

"In a recent survey of business confidence, 91% of firms said they would maintain their investments in China, rather than move them elsewhere"

Fuck them. They had 100 years to do this, but decided to dump all the money in China and it's biting them in the ass.

Our masters are now Chinese......

Corporations are taking jobs away from North America (who does that benefit?)
Our leaders go on trips to China to secure "Trade Deals". (to benefit who?)
Our leaders are selling the rights to our national resources to foreign interests (Don't really think Joe Public benefits from that deal)

Why would Canada even consider becoming trade partners with a country with an abysmal record of Human Violations? It should be illegal for our companies to Trade with communist China, but no, our Political leaders actually go there to seek out "deals". Again, it benefits the people who have money. It benefits their contributors. It benefits Apple. It benefits Nike.

If it wasn't absolutely appalling, I would be inclined to find it funny that the money these 2 companies save using sweatshop labor isn't really passed on to the consumer. It simply further pads the pockets of the super rich.

The argument has long been that companies couldn't compete unless they move the jobs off shore. (1) If it was illegal to trade with a country that uses slave labor, then competition would not really be the issue. (2) Companies could compete, sell their products at current prices, pay their employees livable wages.... the only thing that would change is Executives would not be able to collect 380x the salary and bonus money as the avg worker.

By the way...... they own the media too. Its kind of like Rush's 2112....

We've taken care of everything
The words you read, the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes
It's one for all and all for one
We work together, common sons
Never need to wonder how or why.....

and that is how they want it!
The only people that benefit are the greedy fucking political leaders
But hey maybe they can send over another virus that destroys the world ffs

Correct.

The pro-trade with China crowd loves to point out that North American GDP has never been higher. Ergo, trading with China is good.

But the fact of the matter is that all that increased GDP (wealth) has been concentrated in the hands of the wealthy. Not even the 1 percenters, the Ruling Class. They have become beyond rich by doing business with China. And they don't want to change that. Not one bit.

Trading with China has resulted in unprecedented job losses for the middle class. Factories, mines, mills have been closed all over North America and Europe and production has been shipped to China. Instead of having solid middle class jobs at some factory that pays a decent wage, unskilled workers now get minimum wage part time work. The Ruling Class gets beyond rich, but the middle and working classes get fucked. Like never before. Now, the wage disparity between the rich and poor is wider than ever before. Used to be that the CEO of a company made maybe 10 times what the guy on the line made. Now it's more like 200 times. And somebody thinks that makes sense.

Free trade has always been a right wing policy.

I'm all in favour of Free Trade, but the playing field needs to be level.

You can't have free trade with a country that pays people 50 cents a day and has no environmental protection laws, no labour laws, and doesn't respect intellectual property laws. I.e. China.

Fuck tariffs, I'm all in on an all out boycott of communist China.

I'm a label checker and if I see Made in China, or I don't see where it was made (which means it was Made in China), I won't buy it unless there is no alternative.

Fuck em.

That's what the tariffs were for, to level playing fields with countries with poverty level wages.
The free trade movement ended those and manufacturing went where it was cheapest without tariffs.

It was difficult for Trump to win a trade war when every day he demonstrated that he had no idea how tariffs worked or what the balance of trade meant.

The counter-argument is that for the first time in 500 years, our white asses are owned by a non white country and we have to learn to suck non white cock and like it.

And any rhetoric to the contrary is just the hysterical bleatings of the dying colonialist.
