Buying a new car shortly

Okay, after looking around and thinking through which vehicle best sits my needs, I have decided on a Toyota Corolla. How much room is there for "haggling" when buying a new car? How willing should they be to "throw in some freebies?" I have gotten the best deal so far in Waterloo, but have not yet thrown in a freebie, not even floor mats. Is this the norm in today's market? Any info anyone has to offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

They only have so much room to move, especialy in a Toyota Corolla. If your right at their limit, then you will get no freebies. Try getting 4 new steel rims fr your winter tires. If they will not budge, you knowyou have th bstdal possible. I can only guess that the discount from retail is abour $800, not much more.

check out higher volume toyota dealerships. they will be willing to live with a smaller margin on the vehicle.

800 sounds low. I know Honda's have the smallest margin on their cars...

From what I've heard new Toyota's are made under the "pull" system.... they don't make the car until it's ordered.

So not having scads of unsold new cars lying around they don't have the same incentives to cut deals as other auto manufacturers using the "push" system (make the cars then hope you can find someone to buy them) do.


When I bought my Yaris I couldn't get much in the way of deals on the car, but did manage to negotiate a better trade-in than originally offered.

Consider buying in the USA

There are problems though as the manufactureres are trying to stop this by playing games such as :

Car must meet Ontario standards

Warranty may be invalid

May be stuck with orphan car that you cannot plate


Get American dealers to compete using email and see how much can be saved then do homework and let me know as I am considering same

Buy the XRS. The only option is an automatic transmition.

Mark up is about 8%. You should get 3 to 5 off.

Ideally the following car is what I want.

2010 Corolla CE
Automatic Transmission
Enhanced convenience package
Factory tint on windows
Hood deflector
rear bumper protector
Rust proofing

Best price I have gotten so far is 23,500. with all taxes, freight and all other charges included. Is this a fair price for this car? They are also giving me 0% financing on the whole amount and will take a further 500. off if I go with Toyota financing.
