British Car Day at Bronte park this Sunday

If you are into British cars (as I am), tomorrow, Sunday September 18, 2011 is North America's largest British Car exhibition at Bronte Park in Burlington.

Usually well over 1,000 vintage British Cars in attendence. Jaguars, Triumphs, MG, Big Healys, little minis (the real ones), Rolls, Bently, Morgan, Rovers, you name it.

Always a fascinating show if you're a gear head and into the older classic British designs.

Oh, I know. The new ones are beautiful. Hell of a long waiting list, and I doubt they would meet current safety regs for import

I believe that they do meet safety requirements.

The one pictured above is a 2011 and it is RHD

Some of us actually are not intimidated by having to work on our cars. We know how to change our own tires, or oil, or even do a frame off.

But you are right, there are many many girly-boys who should never consider owning a classic British car. For them, there are Honda Civics and Toyota Rav 4s and other such banal automobiles. This thread is not aimed at girly-boys who do not know which end of the hammer is which.

God I love the One 77.

Old British sports cars are great. However a lot of them were designed beautifully but under engineered. Take it from me, they take a lot of caring for.

There was a DB5 at the show 2 years ago. Silver and all. Beautiful car. The new ones are very refined looking to be sure not gaudy looking like the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the world.

Old British sports cars are great. However a lot of them were designed beautifully but under engineered. Take it from me, they take a lot of caring for.

They are cars that were largely built in the 60's and 70's. They were not under engineered in their time. Keep in mind where the state of the art was at time.

By today's standards, yeah, the old British iron is primitive. But there is a wonderful simplicity associated with the old British (and American) cars of that era. The wiring diagram for my old British car fits on a single piece of 8.5 x 11 paper. A single piece.

My day to day driver - the service manual is 4 volumes ane each volume is about as thick as the City of Toronto Phone book (I'm not kidding) An entire volume of the 4 volume set is devoted solely to the electrical system in the car.

I had a Triumph 2500TC (mid to late 70's) with a straight 6.
I have never owned anything smoother to drive. Wooden dash, etc.
It hated cold starts!!!!

I'm not famiiar with that car, but it sounds like it has the Triumph 2.5 litre straight 6 which was the engine used in the TR250 and TR6.

L6 engines tend to be very smooth and yeah, Triumh always used the wooden dash boards which were very pretty. (Till the TR7 came along I think - which helped kill Triumph.)

I owned a 1979 Rolls Royce Silver Wreath, and a 1961 Hillman minx convertible, beautifull cars. They were in the repair shops more than I drove them. lol

yes they have some astons there- new and old - just got back - was 1000 cars last year

There were 3 old beautiful Aston Martins.

2 silver DB 4's. One was a 59 RHD, the other a 61. I liked the 61 better.

Then there was a metalic green DB4 - that one was the best of the lot.

The new ones are nice and all, but at the end of the day, they lack the charm of the old ones.

Got a kick out of about 20 Deloreans all in a row, all with their doors open. Didn't see any with flux capacitors though.

the back to the future delorean was 3 cars to the left of that lions club stand.

supposenly they are the largest group of deloreans in the world, which is kinda cool . and the one that was done up like the back to the future machine was in the nike commercial recently .


all in all it was a nice day and nice cars about 300-400 in total .
