The first female player. If a female can hit a softball they can hit a fastball. Ever watch a game? Those softballs go fast and curve and pitcher stands closer.
Softball is fast and the pitcher is much closer to the plate, but I have no idea how it would compare to hard ball. There are a couple of females in the minor league system, which is at least some sort of a starting process.

I know there are female coaches in the minor league system.

I am leaning towards the first female in the MLB will be a coach.

Reggie Jackson batted against a female softball pitcher when he was in his prime

He kept striking out

There are women playing for MLB affiliated minor league teams? What are their names?

Jays claimed RHP Taylor Guerrieri off waivers from Tampa, and outrighted 4 players, RHP Leonel Campos, RHP Taylor Cole, catcher Raffy Lopez, and RHP Luis Santos. Does anyone know what "outrighted" means?? I'm assuming its similar to being waived??

EDIT: Never mind, I found it

Typically, a player is placed on waivers after being designated for assignment for the purpose of outrighting him to one of the club's minor league teams. A player who is outrighted to the minors is removed from the 40-man roster but is still paid according to the terms of his guaranteed contract

I still think Tulo can have a comeback year in 2018. I dont think he's over the hill just yet
He's over the hill and at the bottom on the other side. The Jays have one position player of any consequence and that is Donaldson, smoak was the old smoak the last 2 months, look for that to continue. When have they ever got any significant free agent, other than clemens when nobody wanted him and he juiced to resurrect his career. They will be around 500 next year.

Rule 5 draft is coming up soon , Jays had to clear roster space to make room for some prospects they need to protect ahead of the draft.

Those guys they outrighted are spare parts, although Santos looked pretty good in his short stint here.

Free agency is under way and here are the FAs who were extended qualifying offers and have draft pick compensation attached.

Jake Arrieta, SP, Cubs
Lorenzo Cain, OF, Royals
Alex Cobb, SP, Rays
Wade Davis, RP, Cubs
Greg Holland, RP, Rockies
Eric Hosmer, 1B, Royals
Lance Lynn, SP, Cardinals
Mike Moustakas, 3B, Royals
Carlos Santana, 1B, Indians

Jays arent giving up a 1st rounder and overpay for a free agent, so look for them to explore some trades and sign bargain type players like they’ve done the last couple years.
We need a starter, a lefty reliever , a middle infielder and an outfielder.
I think they can go with youth in the outfield and focus on the other three.
If they can unload Morales it will open up more possibilities.

My thinking is they need to unload Tulo and/or Martin. I have no issue unloading Morales as he sure did not live up to expectations, but Tulo and to a lesser extent Martin leave a lot to be desired for the monies they are receiving. Finding a taker for Tulo will not be easy. I still like Travis because he can hit, so if you trade Morales could you move Travis to the DH and have him play some corner outfield and second. Pearce is still on the roster and he is pretty much a back up position player/DH, wouldn't break my heart to see him traded either.

Teams do not have to part with a 1st round pick anymore if they sign a free agent who rejected a QO. The rules changed for this season as per the CBA. Apparently the old rules were hamstringing the movement of some mid tier free agents.

Here is the summary of the new rules if anyone cares. Will be more punitive on the luxury tax teams.

Thanks I didn’t realize this was coming into effect this offseason.

It certainly does make things easier for free agents to sign where they want, in recent years some big name players had to settle for less and wait a while to sign because teams didn’t want to give up their top pick. We saw it with EE and Bautista last year.

Time for rebuild but not gonna happen.

I find young players of the future playing .400 more fun to watch than a .500 club of vets that strike out and got no speed

Alex Anthoupoulos hired by Atlanta Braves (GM or Prez?)

I'd be willing to bet that he builds a winner before Shapeero. I would consider Toronto and Atlanta to be similar in terms of market size/spending ability.

It’s for the GM position but he’s going to have a lot of freedom to make on field decisions without approval from higher up all the time. This was the reason he left Toronto, he wasn’t offered enough control over baseball operations with Shapiro at the top.

It’s the complete opposite situation compared to when he took over in Toronto. Jays had no prospects at the time and he had to rebuild the farm from the ground up. Compare that to the Braves who currently are a top 3 farm system with several elite prospects. I’d expect him to poach some of the front office from Toronto. Many of the executives and scouts he hired while in Toronto are still with the Jays.
