It’s Canada’s stupid guns laws that prevent people who work in the outdoors from carrying firearms. If that drama teacher has his way only criminals will have guns.
Hmmm

Are you aware that more people are killed by mosquitoes in Canada every year than by bears and cougars and coyotes added together?

I think that given this fact, maybe it would make more sense to carry a fly swatter than a firearm.

I mean logically.

I'm no fan of Mr dressup or his ridiculous firearm laws, but you could legally carry a shotgun in the boonies to protect yourself from this exact situation

LOL, oh, for fuck's sake, I don't even know where to begin mocking this dumb post.

Maybe try looking south of the border and see what a "great idea" it is to have a free-for-all with guns?

By the way, in remote areas like the one in question, you could most definitely carry a loaded gun -- there would be NOTHING preventing you from being armed up there in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere if you wanted to.
There is an estimated 1 firearm for every 2 people in Canada.
If an inaminate object such as a firearm was the real problem then we would all be dead by now

I would think that black bear populations would have increased in Canada over the last two years, with a lack of hunting going on. A lot of Americans normally come here to hunt.

As I said in the post about coyotes, any animal capable of hurting humans should be fearful of humans. Black bears are a very successful species because they have learned that, and usually shy away from people.

There are typically ~ 100,000 hunters annually in Ontario. Because of the oppressive gun laws hamermill has referenced, they are all armed with hockey sticks and Frisbees.

Black bears eat a human, usual a camper or hiker every couple of years in Algonquin Park it seems, live sashemi unlike the more omnivorous much larger grizzlies out West that often kill people and then bury them to dry age the meat and eat latter.
Just have to correct your statement. Last reported deaths by bears in Algonquin was back in 1991, on an island in Lake Opeongo.
Here is a list of bear attacks in the Province of Ontario that has resulted in death. Violent encounters are extremely rare.

Chronology of fatal bear attacks in Ontario
• September 1, 2019, Catherine Sweatt-Mueller, 62, of Maple Plain, Minnesota was killed on Red Pine Island on Rainy Lake in northwestern Ontario.

• September 6, 2005, Jacqueline Perry, 30, was killed in a predatory attack at Missinaibi Lake Provincial Park north of Chapleau.

• June 14, 1992, Sebastien Lauzier, was a Timmins student working on a mineral exploration team off a remote bush road 12.4 kms north of Lake Abitibi when he was killed.

• October 11, 1991, a bear killed Toronto couple Raymond Jakubauskas, 32, and Carola Frehe, 48, camped on Bate’s island in Algonquin Provincial Park’s Opeongo Lake.

• May 13, 1978, again in Algonquin, another bear killed and partially ate three boys from Petawawa.

• October 1, 1968, Jack Ottertail was killed while on a walk near Atikokan.

• The only other documented bear killing in Ontario was in 1881, when a trapped bear killed pioneer John Dennison on the Green Lake portage, just north of Bate’s Island, before the area became a park.

Depending where.

But the chances of needing any weapon in the bush is pretty much zero. If I was raising cattle and worried about coyotes or worked at a dump with a bear problem, I might see a gun as useful but otherwise, it's a lot of weight to lug around. I'd rather carry an extra litre or two of booze.

BTW bears are tough fuckers. If they want you, a pistol or a shotgun may not be enough.

Thankfully Canada sees guns as tools and not a weapon for self protection so they're generally kept in places where there is a reasonable use for them instead of people carrying them while shopping or leaving them somewhere they can easily be stolen.

Also the number of handguns vs long guns plays a big role.

Really, beyond ridiculous if your a fan of the wild west ? We are talking about hunting or residential use ? This is what I know:

Firearms fall into three categories in Canada: non-restricted (most rifles and shotguns), restricted (handguns), and prohibited (specific handguns, sawed-off rifles and shotguns, automatic weapons)

Handguns are virtually useless for hunting but rifles & shot guns are available with a sensible caveat:

Completion of a fire arms safety course, a waiting period, and a background check. This is 'beyond ridiculous' ?

I have no knowledge (or need) to possess concealed or open handguns so I cannot comment the this aspect of the law other than to suggest from my vantage point - I don't see a need for more handguns in residential settings.

She was planting trees and an adult black bear attacked her. They found 3 black bears in the area so they took DNAfrom her clothing to see if they can match the bear responsible. This is why I don't trust black bears, so many people say oh they wont hurt you they are more afraid of you BULLSHIT! I
Calm down there. lol

Like I said, if you actually knew anything about the gun laws you would understand how ridiculous they are.

The classification system is a complete joke with zero logic
The recent ban on over 1500 firearms is beyond ridiculous

Lemme put it in terms you might understand

Imagine banning all honda odyssey minivans that are black because they are potential race cars, yes the logic is that stupid

I read somewhere that if a grizzly/brown bear attacks someone, it’s usually to defend their territory, their young, etc. and to “play dead” covering your head and neck, and pray that you don’t actually end up dead. Old grizzlies, injured or bears that wake up in winter due to hunger will try to eat you as well.

If a black bear attacks a person, it’s most likely because they’re hungry so they advise to fight it, going for sensitive areas (eyes, snout, groin).

That being said, always have bear spray and/or bear bangers on you in areas with bears (black or grizzly) and practice using it at least once before. Even then it’s not 100% but it’s better than nothing.

Pistol you are correct is not enough, but a 12 gauge shotgun will stop a bear dead in its track, assuming you have the right ammo ofcourse
