The Beatles versus the Stones.

As a band, it's tough to decide who I like better, but between these two LPs, there's no hesitation for me: Let It Bleed all the way.

Also, Let it Bleed was released on this day in 1969, so happy 55th birthday to it.

By no stretch of the imagination is Country Honk better than Across the Universe.

Let it Be

Wasn't Paranoid the album that killed the 60's?

The 1960s were over when Paranoid was released (September 1970). Let it Bleed was released in December 1969.

Lyrically, a darker album with songs like Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler. And the day after it came out, Altamont, the anti-Woodstock happened.

Let it Bleed appears almost whimsical compared to the raw power of Beggar's Banquet. The Beatles got their first break in Hamburg, the Stones in Milano.

The title song of Let it Bleed is about shrimp cocktail.

I had drinks at The Hot Lips bar in Milan, a Stones bar. I assumed that's where they began, upon further review The Stones did a six city tour of Italy in 1967.
Ah, OK, I'm pretty good with rock 'n' roll history and was not aware of any early gigs in Italy. They actually got their start in 1963 doing a Rice Krispies ad. It's the only song Brian Jones wrote for them.

They'd probably rather forget about this.

The Stones were a London blues cover band The Stones weren't writing much of their own music until Aftermath in 1966. In fact the Beatles gave them their first hit.
