Barefax just boarded up yesterday as Friday it looked as it did before, also 27 Club next door is also plywooded up. As the building is for Sale I can only speculate the Leases are not being extended, has nothing to do with protests or patios just being reopened

FFS stores, restaurants and bars have been boarding their fronts since the start of the pandemic for a variety of reasons including security. Protests this last little while have just made the the situation worse. I guess the lockdown has gotten everyone into the conspiracy theory mode.

As a non-stop almost daily strip club guy, I ain't crying if barefax closes down. It was headed downhill with their insane CR extra fee anyway.

But on a more balanced side, it not good for the industry in general. Ottawa loses clubs and doesn't replace them.

Likely yes. Strip club licenses generally can’t be transferred
Wrong, they can and have been transferred. They are misinterpreting the bylaw. If you want an example look at Tease/Casino Cabaret/Palace of Screams etc. They are limited to existing addresses which are listed on the bylaw so if someone wanted to open an adult entertainment parlour at that address they could.

Actually that is mostly wrong.

The adult entertainment license for that location cannot be transferred to another location.

If the new owner purchases Barefax's assets and decides to continue to operate a strip club from 27 York, THE NEW OWNER WOULD HAVE TO APPLY FOR A NEW license because the existing license is a non-transferable asset. Read the by-law. The City is not going to be standing idly by and allow just anyone to take an assignment of a strip club license. That would of course be ridiculous to even think so. The new owner/applicant would have to be at least 19 years of age, and provide a police record search certificate that shows no prior convictions for indecent acts, procuring, prostitution, trafficking or possession as well as a number of other criteria. The City could however refuse to issue a new license if the City has reached its cap on the maximum number of strip clubs in the RMOC.

If the owner however buys all of the shares of the company that owns Barefax, or a controlling interest, the new owner COULD continue to operate a strip club at 27 York Street because the license remains with the same legal entity. In other words a sale share does not constitute a transfer of the license.
My bad, what I meant to say was not transferred but re-issued to a new operator in the same location. Again, I gave a valid example where I know the license has been re-issued at least twice in the last few years. I never implied that the new owner or operator would not have to abide by what is laid out in the bylaw (record check, etc). But 27 York, along with several other locations including even the old Jason's location in Kanata, are explicitly mentioned in the bylaw as places that can be licensed as an adult entertainment parlor. If someone meets the criteria laid out in the bylaw then the city would have a difficult time not re-issuing a license for that specific location. They could try but I doubt they would succeed.

Why did Jasons close, was it any good? I'm still saddened that The Dollar closed, it was close to my home and there were nude women dancing in it lol

Jason’s was the subject of a lot of complaints from parents of children at the daycare that was behind it. The parents were finding used condoms and drug paraphernalia in the children’s playground. When it became a Chinese food restaurant the issues stopped.

One of the biggest things was also the NHL strike. All the bars in Kanata and Bells Corners suffered because they lost all the pre and post game business. A lot of people would meet at Jason's and take a shuttle or a cab to the game. Same with the Hooters in BC and a few others. Their biggest nights were games nights.

someone could in theory open up a new strip club by making it a private members only club I would think.
