A year after hearing “welcome home” for the first time at the Canadian border, Shahzad Gidwani found himself questioning whether he and his wife made the right decision to start a new life here.

The timing wasn’t ideal, arriving in Toronto from India with their son just as the pandemic began sweeping the globe. Yet the 53-year-old held high hopes for his family’s future. He was bringing with him decades of international work experience in sales and marketing, and a master’s degree in business from the U.S.

But as inflation crept toward a 40-year high, eating away at the family’s savings, panic began to set in. Gidwani struggled to secure a permanent job with a living wage because employers didn’t want to hire someone without Canadian experience.

They are starting to wake up and see Scamnada for what it really is. It's a labour trap.

If you search youtube, you will see tons of vids on foreigners telling people to think twice coming here.

We must not take on immigrants who bring in less than
one million dollars of saving.

Lesson #1: Southern Ontario is for the wealthy only. The poor will not be tolerated.....
Lesson #2: If you do not have a BMW, Lexus, Tesla, Mercedes, Porsche, etc., don't even CONSIDER moving to Toronto.....you are dirt otherwise.....

You're welcome.....

You will not have any immigrants.

Plus immigrants with that much money have zero incentives to move to Canada.

Even if they were to they would be old, which is not what Canada wants.

Canada is a country where typically poorer, younger, educated immigrants come and work their way up. What we need to do is remove this "Canadian experience" bull crap we put immigrants through, so they can get jobs. That is racist in the first place.

Canada is short workers. However, we want only immigrants who are willing to work. Having skills is also an advantage.

But you guys are not acknowledging one thing. The jobs here suck.

It's a trap and the word is getting out.

That's why I wish we have more wealthy immigrants who bring
with them the money to hire people to do those jobs that suck.

Imagine we will accept 200k multi-millionaire migrants each
of whom are to spend $100k yearly on chauffeurs, house maids
and escorts. Wouldn't it be great locals unqualified for good jobs
can still find employment on not-so-good but well-paid jobs?

But you are still stuck with the issue of who will do the work needed for the economy?

A rich person isn't going to drive a truck, stock shelves and make your coffee in the morning.

And they're tried the whole bring wealthy people into Canada approach.

All they did was launder money and buyout the real estate. They don't invest in the economy.

It is a trap. Except for the ones who end up working for the government.

I can only comment on my little patch in construction. Almost none of the migrants Canada targets want to work in construction. Even though the pay scale is superior to most other jobs. We will need helluva amount of new infrastructure, but the workforce remains thin. One reason the labor costs are skyrocketing and with them the prices of the finished projects. Whatever people who want to work in construction do come here are being sucked out by Alberta where pay is greater, on average, but the cost of living is much lower than in the GTA. Ontario should target the Central and Eastern Europe for the skilled trades. Also due to rising wages, the tax issues need to be addressed because the way things are, taxes are destroying productivity.

You don't want to pay them enough?

When taxes keep workers at home, or worse, they use their days off to do cash gigs, I'd say there is a problem. Might not seem that way from your basement, but out here in the real world, it's actually a huge problem.

Wow, that's so old school. Europe has an aging population.

We should be like America and target Mexicans.
Mexicans don't really like Canada- I have worked with hundreds of them down south. We've had a great run with the Italians and Portuguese, Poles, Serbs, etc. They have the work ethics and most of them actually want to do construction. Since the Ukrainian war, we have had a few Ukies show up and they're not only hard workers, but know how to use a hammer.

It's a hard sell to convince a European to come here at a cheap price.

You can easily build a cheap living quarters for Mexican workers and offer a 6-month work permit. That's what our farms do.

But I understand what you really are trying to say. 😶
