Why do people put ignore lists in their signature?

I have a few people on my ignore list. I don't advertise who those people are because I'm done arguing with them and have no use for them. I am not going to give them what they want by continuing to engage them.

Advertising who's on your ignore list seems, at least to me, to be a passive-aggressive move to agitate the person you've blocked.

Just my two pennies.

They have a missionary zeal. Many years ago I read a quote from none other than Yasser Arafat*, he said something like - We are fighting to see who has the better imaginary friend.

*Arafat was the leader of the PLO (Palistinian Liberations Organization), and famous terrorist when he was alive. People of a certain age know who he was. People younger than a certain age may not.
Everyone online tends to have a missionary zeal. That's what makes these fights largely a waste of time. It's hard enough to change people's opinions in-person so trying to do it online is near impossible and pointless. I think your quote is basically: "All religious wars are about people arguing over who has the biggest invisible friend." That being said, I think the quote's origins are not so clear cut. Depending on where you look online, some people think that Napoleon might have said it.

Back to the OP's post though, I find it funny that people even need an ignore feature at all. If you want to "ignore" someone then just do it. Don't read their responses and don't respond. We used to do that before computers. I guess it's too much effort for some of us to use the built-in filter of our brain.

Why? Probably mental illness. One member scours my posts for typos and thinks he found gold when he finds one. Go figure.
Who's more mentally ill? The person that nitpicks others online or the person that spends their time trying to defend themselves from such people?

If you like pure rant vs. reason, then never use your ignore list. Some of the threads have interesting content, but it's hard to see sometimes without going thru post after post that is simply garbage. People like LOLacle and the oily gasbag just wear me out...
In answer to the "why do people put ignore lists in their signature?" A very sad person, someone who would call you up on the phone just to hang up on you. On the slightly sick side of ostentatious...

I have a few on ignore. It is a great feature. I support the feature. I think it can be used in healthy ways and is something needed on forums like this.

What I don’t get, why broadcast who is on your ignore list in your signature? I have seen this with quite a few posters now.

Is this so the people on ignore know they are? Do you think they really care if they are or not? Do you think they will plead to get off your list? LOL

Is it to let other people know so that is someone on your list is bugging to trying and reach you, they can tell you?

Before the new board and its new feature, I know people who purposely quote an ignored person so that others would be able to view the ignore posts but with the new system, even quotes of ignore people don’t show up.

So what is the point?
I didn’t even know you can do that 🤣

I normally read the message before looking at who it is from. That is fine for enjoying reading the back and forth dialogue, but after a while I notice that some posters are really just not contributing anything new. There are some persistent shapeshifting trolls on here looking to provoke on whatever topic they think will cause controversy, and some really misguided people with aggressive but ignorant views.

I quietly have a very small number on ignore - I have stopped giving those posters any of my time.

This is a good point for the ignore feature. If someone is going to call you all the time to hang up, why not just block their number?

It is kinda the same thing. Now I don’t get putting who you have blocked onflag hanging over your house so everyone knows who’s phone numbers you have on block.

So I get the feature. Not the broadcast.

I do give it up to Malibuk though. He is the only one who answered, yet there are more who do it.

I just skim read the long winded soap box twats. I don't ever click a link provided by the misinformation Amigo dimwits. I do however find their whining and belly aching very satisfying.

TERB is like the "motley crew".

"If you've encountered the word motley, it's most likely in the phrase "motley crew," which means a diverse and poorly organized group."

That's the thing with the internet. Since you're not looking the other person in the eye, you can be as obnoxious as you want with zero consequence. Sadly, much of that hostility is boiling over into the real world.

The plus side of that is people really tell you their honest opinion which they might not do in a real life social setting.

So you get to see what people are really thinking, which I think is good

Are people actually thinking before they write something online though? People shoot from the hip without taking a moment to read and re-read or understanding what the other person is trying to say.

I do think the cons outweigh the pros of people giving their "honest" opinions. Far too many people resort to personal attacks online and offline and discussions become very difficult if not impossible.

In this day and age, I think people behave (or not behave) the same online and offline. If you don't agree with someone online or offline the goal is to shout louder than them. There's no such thing as civil discourse anymore.
