After saying AGAIN that tariffs against Canada and everyone else would be going into effect immediately, he's changed his tune and now set 2nd April as the date.

He's trolling and nothing more.

Don't tell us the articles are very old. Sanders was co-authoring tariff legislation as recently as 2023.

I've said repeatedly that you can deem Trump's tariff policies with Canada unreasonable.

The point is you can't oppose tariffs as right wing policy. They are not strictly right wing policy. That's all I said. I did not defend a specific tariff action.
Here's the thing. I remember 35 years ago when NAFTA was going through. The Tories fully backed NAFTA (which, of course, eliminated tariffs on imported goods on trade between Canada, the USA and Mexico). The Liberals and NDP were rabidly against NAFTA.

My point is what is "left-wing" today could very well be "right-wing" tomorrow and vice-versa. Liberal and Conservative viewpoints are fluid and everchanging and always have been.

To use an American example, John F. Kennedy is sort of a darling of the "left" today, but I remember reading that his policies and political views aligned more closely with Ronald Reagan's of the 1980s than anyone else's

That happens. Trump is not exactly a Reagan Republican, but he shares a lot of Reagan policy perspectives and there are other issues he does not.

One can hate Trump. They can also passionately consider themselves to be left wing. I just wouldn't get take a deep dive into the broader tariff debate beyond the U.S.-Canadian situation. I heard from so many people how Trump's China tariffs were so bad in his first term (including here) then Biden retained them.

I personally believe Trump is going too far with Canada. I'm not sure why. Perhaps he is try to fuck with Trudeau.

Or is it, to quote Homer Simpson, "stupid .... like a fox!"?

By continuously pushing back the "big day for tariffs to start" a month at a time, he's controlling the ebb and flow of confidence in world economies -- including the US economy -- and he keeps anxieties and tensions high.

The thing is, it will get to a point where it'll be shit or get off the pot for him. He can only keep doing that for so long.

It could also be that there are behind closed doors talks going on between him and Trudeau that we don't know about regarding concessions Trump wants

This is a definite at this point...Trudeau has been poking him for years and Trump doesn't forget.

But there is a silver lining...Canadian politicians are changing their thinking.

Nationalistic pride is at a high that hasn't been seen in a long time...

By placing such heavy energy sanctions on Russia the EU has bent itself over the desk and opened itself wide for its master the USA.

I believe Trump wants Canada to hurry up and have a federal election so he can hopefully work with a conservative government instead of "Team Trudeau"- and yes he's fucking with Trudeau. I think Trump did have respect for Trudeau during his first term but lost all when hearing Trudeau disrespecting him on that hot mic moment with France's Emmanuel Macron, UK PM Boris Johnson and other VIPs 2019-Trump called him two faced after that.

This is what he thinks of him now from just the other day...

Trump is right on this one...

The comment that Justin made about how disappointed he was that the US failed to elect a woman president twice now probably was the last straw...To think that was a prepared speech as well...What was Justin thinking?

The punch line is that Trump is so fucking incompetent that he destroyed his little Canuck ass-licker PeePee and ensured that the Liberals win their 4th straight election.

He just needs to admit it's a bad idea and move one.

He underestimated us.

He is playing the "start from an extreme position" game. It works fine in business where you can screw with contractors and suppliers on a one time basis. But in international trade?

Reputation matters, and so do international relations.

CLinton shaved off the federal work force...so did Barrack...they call it trimming the fat. you don't reward laziness. It isn't an attack on Canada...you just feel that way because it's Trump...Canada can make concessions with other countries... heck we should make concessions with Ukraine since we're helping them...
Do you even know what "concessions" means?
