TORONTO -- The Ontario government has chosen three private sector partners to help transform Ontario Place through the addition of a new outdoor adventure park, a massive indoor spa and water park and a revitalized concert venue that will be capable of hosting shows year-round.

The iconic attraction once drew more than three million people a year to Toronto’s waterfront but it was decommissioned in 2012 amid declining attendance and annual loses in excess of $20 million.

Over the years there have been numerous proposals for the 155-acre site, including a waterfront casino.

More recently, the previous Liberal government had begun work towards creating a massive new public park called “Celebration Common”. It even selected a firm to design the park and released renderings of what it would look like.

But Premier Doug Ford scrapped those plans when he assumed office and launched a closed-door process to identify private sector partners to help develop the site instead.

That process has now come to an end with the selection of Austrian resort developer Therme, Quebec outdoor recreation firm Écorécréo and U.S.-based concert promoter Live Nation to help see through a new vision for the site.

Election next year so this is the sales pitch they/ Conservative / Ford is giving us for next year to get elected. All parties do this. Whether the idea will go through is up in the air.
A subway next to water spells disaster.

LIve Nation is a bunch of greedy swindlers... way to go Doug.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are paying him for life for the contract.

The drawings of these projects always look so slick, but the they get so boiled down that they turn into an ugly mess.

I don’t like it! It’s just an election time announcement. Vote for us; look how good we are at using your money. Shits gotten old.

The only thing for sure about this announcement is the govt just paid some “donor” a lot of taxpayer money.

With the govt running massive debt, I can’t fathom how in good conscience is this a priority.

Definitely, not to mention that there will be a big announcement on how Ford is turning this public land into a chance for profit from some foreign, private business.

Hope they keep the globe movie. Those were also nice.
I saw Apocalypse Now! for the first time at The Cinesphere. It was the first IMAX Theater and still the largest theater of it's kind in Ontario. Unfortunately it's been allowed to fall into disrepair. The rectangles need to be demolished before they collapse into the lagoon. Structures age faster when surrounded by water. If they enclose the Amphitheater, it will become a money loser after two years. Toronto has enough music halls, one on the lakefront will be more expensive to maintain.

The renovation of The Royal Conservatory of Music has been the most successful. Another enclosed concert hall can't compete.

The acoustic s at Koerner Hall are as good as any venue around the world. Too bad Oscar Peterson is not around to enjoy it, he'd be recording there permanently.

Was a bus boy for a couple of weeks at Kellys in the 1980s. I remember a waiter(or was it a manager?) asking a couple to give back shot glasses they were stealing(putting in the purse).
Remember those restaurants.
The German restaurant(I think it was closer to the entrance)had some great German beer on draught but they stopped carrying it in later years.
