Joshua Boyle and his American wife Caitlan Coleman and their two children who had been held hostage for five years by the Haqqani network (Taliban allies), have been rescued by the Pakistani Army "The operation by Pakistani forces, based on actionable intelligence from US authorities was successful; all hostages were recovered safe and sound and are being repatriated."

"The couple, American Caitlan Coleman, 31, and her Canadian husband, Joshua Boyle, 33, were kidnapped in 2012 while they were traveling as tourists in Afghanistan "

Should we be interfering in natural Darwin selection by expending a lot of cost and energy to defeat it ? Really - tourists in Afghanistan ?????

Well at least Canadian Commandos, U.S. Special Forces/SEALS or the SAS or SBS didn't risk their lives.

Perhaps more seriously, the Pakistani Commandos did an excellent job!

^ Which makes me wonder whether Joshua Boyle thought that his connections to the infamous Khadr family would protect them.

Certainly his behaviour was that of reckless stupidity.

Boyle was once married to Omar Khadr's sister. The US military offered him a plane ride home. . . He refused to [have them] board the plane.
His parents attempting to undo the damage, are now saying oh yes they are cooperating with U.S. Intelligence agencies.

Nothing like being an ingrate and biting the hand that feeds you to unto good will. The U.S. quite literally told the Pakistani Army yes it is that car - the one you are looking at.

The whole family should get $10.5 million each for being allowed to "vacation" in Afghanistan.

Only seems fair,... the government of Canada was not being responsible for their safety, by allowing them to travel there.

Khadr's sister is one of the documented Khadr terrorist family members, Omar is not allowed to communicate with while he is on probation.

Further to which the Toronto Star reports that Boyle said "“My family is obviously psychologically and physically shattered by the betrayals and the criminality of what has happened over the past five years."

Was that betrayal by the Haqqani network who he felt would treat them as friends, or is this some more biting the hand of the U.S. Government and the Canadian Government?

Certainly his father-in-law isn't very happy with him. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-hostage-s-father-slams-Canadian-husband.html

It's hard to believe that Zaynab Khadr had a non Muslim wedding. That doesn't mean that Boyle converted, but he certainly would have had a Muslim wedding if he married a woman as devout as Zaynab.

By betrayal I assume he means that he was in the region doing what he thought was charity and somebody turned him over to the terrorists.

Will have to read a bit more on the story, but why would you go to a war zone with your pregnant wife and why
would you have two more babies while you're being held captive?

Doesn't make sense.
Yep,... there's a lot more to this story than a "vacation" in Afghanistan.

This whole thing is really fucked up. He takes his pregnant wife to Afganistan, they are captured, she gives birth to three kids in total, their daughter is killed, and the wife is raped.

The three kids ... Who is the real father? Or they the results from the rape?

There are many very peculiar things about this family:

Joshua Boyle referred to himself as being a "Pilgrim and his heavily pregnant wife."

He further referred to the Haqqani network as "'pagan' and not people of faith."

He refused to be flown home by the U.S. Air Force.

His wife wore a Islamic Style head scarf on the entire flight from Pakistan to Canada.

Refusing to be flown through any US controlled territory, aircraft, or base was probably a wise move considering what the US has done to others connected to Khadr.

But I agree with the rest of your post. He's an odd fellow. He's probably converted to some form of Islam, but obviously not the form practiced by the Haqqani.
