Good, I couldn't figure out what to get.

TORONTO—The Air Miles loyalty points program says it is cancelling plans to implement an expiry policy and collectors won’t lose their miles at the end of this year.
Air Miles collectors would have seen miles they haven’t claimed within five years expire on Dec. 31 this year.
But LoyaltyOne, the company that runs Air Miles, says it decided to change its position due to uncertainty with provincial governments proposing or considering legislation to prevent the expiry of rewards points.

In Ontario, a private member’s bill sought to make it illegal for companies to allow points to expire only due to the passage of time.
LoyaltyOne said in a statement it believes cancelling the policy will lead to governments and industry members having more meaningful conversations that can help such loyalty programs remain viable across Canada.
The Air Miles reward program launched in 1992 and has more than 11 million active collector accounts.

Fucking "points" are a Canadian addiction! Women go apeshit over Shoppers Optimum points and buy more than they came in for jsut to reach the bonus points level for that week!

I have hundreds and hundreds of thousands of various points and miles. But fuck me, you think I can cash them in? Want to go somewhere with Aeroplan? Like Miami? Via Dallas, Chicago and Pulaskie West Virginia!

My friends called them and tried to book something, they needed an appointment to talk to someone. They had to wait 3 weeks to speak to someone and when they (A.M.)called the connection was terrible couldn't hear what the guy was saying. They called back and they were told they needed another appointment and have to wait another 3 weeks. Needless to say they're freaking out trying to speak to managers.

SDM plan is actually one of the better points plan. We have saved $100's and it is always on stuff that we would be buying anyway.

Aeroplan is our main points program and any household bills that can be put on Aeroplan VISA are paid via VISA. The only hassle is some places (hydro I think) only allow VISA on their telephone banking, not online. Again we would be spending the money anyway on the goods or services so why not get points.

Airmiles: I can not live long enough to collect enough points to fly somewhere so we have the "cash 'em in" option as soon as we hit $20

Same thing with PC points. Every now and then i get $20 back on groceries. I add a cash back of $20 to the grocery bill, apply the PC points discount and then I pocket the $20 cash, adding it to my hobbying fund.

Airmilles and Aeroplan cash backs, hidden in LCBO and Grocery purchases, pay for all of my hobbying. So I guess you could could say I hobby with points.

I would have thought Air Miles would be happy that we were banking our points. They get revenue from the stores that are handing out points and their profit is difference of what they pay out for your points and the revenue they got.

I have no idea of the figures but lets just set up an Terb plan in which they get $15 for my Terb points from a local incall business. When I use the points I'm going to get a $5 credit so Terb profits $10. As long as that $5 credit sits in my account - Terb continues to collect additional revenue in the form of interest from my $5 credit. If it sits in my Terb account as I let it ride to $300 for a joyful night out - I figure they should be happy. If it takes me 7 years to reach the target - they have 7 years interest on my asset (credit).

Now stealing the credit from me to so that it now is a permanent asset for them to me is no different from a bank raiding your savings account. I see the incentive but I can't see their argument to the government for taking it. How were they trying to justify it ?

I have been collecting for 20 years, I do not know how many points I have. I guess I will cash out soon. I prefer Canadian Tire bucks, at least I can go one a spending sprees when they have big specials. I have tools that I have never used.

This is one of the rare cases of mass consumer revolt causing a big company to cancel its plans. Canadians should learn from this.

From everything I heard/read, Air Miles was hemorrhaging customers who were switching to different point/award systems. I was one of them.

Aeroplan can be @unt to use but we have been to Hawaii first class three times on their points. Perhaps try to be sober next time you try to utilize?

F/N Airmiles!!!! Thanks for making the decision now (1 month away) on no expiry after most members have already spent their points on useless crap or loose the points. What a F/N scam Airmiles is. F U Airmiles!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much for saving up for a great trip in the future. They should reimburse everyone for point spent during this F/N scam.

Air Miles has always been a pyrite proposition, never had a card, never will.

At least with my Longo's points card I get free groceries every 4th month.

I have 5300 airmiles and I don't travel much. Did enough travelling when I was a younger guy. Can the Air Miles be transferred to someone else ? The stuff in the Air Miles store is mostly garbabe, hardly anything worth buying there most of the time.

I agree with you and 007 long one.

Many people that thought the points would expire have unwanted toasters and other items purchased to beat the original deadline.

I once used Air Miles to fly to Montreal in 2006 I think, but the plan has gotten worse as far as point accumulation.

There is a website called Points.com where you can manage all your loyalty cards and even transfer between them. I'm enrolled but have never really used it.

I think I will do what Captnkirk said - just cash them in for $20 cash. My aunt told me that's what she does.

Check Points.com but not sure if they can transfer to other persons but maybe other loyalty rewards programs for a better pay out.

This ain't over. The class action lawyer said they are now seeking to have Air Miles restore the points. Whoever at Air Miles came up with this crazy idea has probably been transferred to Air Miles' Syria office on a one way ticket.

Airmiles probably reduced (SCAMMED) all unused points off their book by at least 75% to 90%
