Dropped by my insurance company, what to do?

I was dropped for two minor violations and a speeding ticket within two years. One of them was definitely BS, but I plead guilty to avoid the hassle. What are my options? Any insurance companies that will take me?

What happens if I don't get any violations in several years, will they accept me again?

Basically, I only got 9 demerit points.

There are underwriters that will take higher risk accounts; but expect to pay (5-10k yr would be my first WAG...)

A good broker in your area should be able to present some options. The direct-sales companies likely won't touch you...

I have only 7 points, or two infractions within the last two years. One was a speeding ticket, and one was a minor violation.

I had one accident in which I was rear ended, and my insurance company was also the insurance company of the at-fault party. There were four vehicles invovled, all insured by the same company, and they had to pay a lot. I think this is the main reason they dropped me. It's not fair.

Is it possible that my no-fault accident (in which the insurance company had to pay for my total loss) had something to do with me being dropped? If so, is this fair?

So which is it? First message in this thread you have 9 points with only two violations and a speeding ticket. Now you're at 7 points with only two violations. Which is it?

I'm sure what you said in the thread KBear referenced is true. "The Man" is just out to get you.

Stan Lee is out to get him. Awesome, Sheldon Cooper would be so jealous if he existed.

My bad. I got the exact printout, and it's 9 points, with three violations in two years. I was going by memory.

I didn't even know two "minor" violations could get you 9 demerit points....

Btw, my brother has carried about 9 demerit points for the last 10 years. Everytime one ticket falls off his record, he seems to get another. He's a lucky bastard as far as I'm concerned seeing as he's never gone over 9 at a time. He has never had an issue with his insurance company and actually pays less for insurance than I do (with my clean record). That being said, he's insured through work and I'm not exactly sure how that works.

Go to one of those ticket fixing places, eg: X-Copper.
Get them to review you MTO license record. They can get the settled charges reduced or wiped out by appeals to the provincial gov't.
This will reduce the number and severity of your convictions thereby getting you off facility insurance.

Avoiding the hassle will now cost you about $400/month....convictions stay on your record for 3 years from the date of conviction. Until one of them is more then 3 years old, you will take it up the butt and like it.

How do you know it was no fault? Because you didn't get a ticket? Insurance companies do not go by that, they go by the "rules of attribution" to assign fault.

Talk to an insurance broker. Depending on the nature of the violations you may not be a Facility risk... but remember what you see as a minor violation may be seen by an insurance company as a major violation and you could end up paying a hefty surcharge for it.
Coachman insurance is a good company to look out for.... they insure higher risk drivers who dont qualify for regular market and who arent facility risks. They will also re-rate your policy mid term, so if a conviction drops off your record you dont need to wait for renewal for the rate to change.

I actually have that in my car; set at 120 km/h. It helps a little bit.
