So what is the deal with these catholic priests?

Obviously the Catholic Church has some serious issues with their priests molesting young boys. It is widespread enough that is not just an isolated issue. I'm wondering... why are there so many cases of this? I guess my question is:

Does the priesthood attract men who are pedophiles or sexual predators in the first place?

or

Are these men joining the priesthood "normal" men who, because of celibacy, are so suppressed sexually that they become perverted and develop these urges?

or is there some other reason?

I'm guessing the latter of the two reasons I gave but that is just a guess. But it makes sense since you don't hear about issues with protestants since their priests can marry and get laid.

Many of these guys were sodomites and heretics well before they entered the priesthood and use their profession as a proxy to hide their intentions it would seem. Do they believe that they are forgiven for their sins as long as they confess in the Catholic faith still? In 2010, their confessions would be evidence of crimes committed according the the Canadian Criminal Code. Can priests be made to testify as to what they have heard during confession, probably not?. The priest are well aware of this fact. However in American, the CIA and the FBI have been known to be involved in wiretapping confession booths. The Catholic Church as well as many other religious institutions continues to operate above the laws of the land in most juristictions around the world. although, their time will come as there exist many victims of abuse still alive around the world.
