@gameboy. I'm just being real. Let's not start sucking each other's dicks yet. She just won one major. We need to see a trend to be sure.

Like others have said this chick is injury prone she could get hurt and that's abwrap or maybe she just got lucky or maybe she's that good.

I guess I'm not as easily impressed as others.

You know who's great and I don't like the team or the coach Tom Brady. He's won more rings than anyone that's an example of a championship trend. Shit every dog gets lucky once in a while. Nick Foles won a ring let's see if he can do it again.
You seem to be knocking her achievements to date (the biggest being the first ever Canadian to win a Grand Slam) because she hasn't been around for years. Seriously weird logic.

But yeah, you're right. Every dog get lucky once in a while. That's what what happened to Bianca, she got lucky.

Anyone trashing Bianca on this board knows absolutely nothing about winning a tennis Grand Slam major, could you imagine the pressure, many have choked. Tom Brady needs receivers to catch the football and a good defensive line to give him time to throw the ball.
100% ^^^

@silk. Good point on that regarding Brady. Let's look at an individual sport then. Look at Georges St-************ or Khabib in MMA. Those are proven champions with a trend of excellence.
Again, you're mentioning names of sports figures who're 10-20 years older than her. Meaningless comparison.

I also like the fact that Andreescu isn't overly polished with the media yet. She still allows her personality to show through.
I hope she keeps that as her career progresses. I find it refreshing.
You're right, it's so refreshing. She comes across as a genuine sweetheart. In this day and age of scripted player interviews, it's a welcome change.

It makes a level playing field, but Serena still had an advantage-she had the emotional support form the crowd, Andreescu had to be mentally tough to fight that hostile environment.
Plus, Serena has 23 Major singles titles under her belt. Makes Bianca's win even more impressive.

@gameboy it's not about age. If she wins a couple of slams next year then definitely I'll give her her due.

Remember when Canada womd the Gold Cup in 2000? That was the height of the soccer program. I doubt this country will make a world cup anytime soon unless they expand the teams in the tourney. I'm sure people were going wild then and then look what happened ? Canada has a pathetic soccer team. For a country with so many immigrants that love soccer we still can't find 11 guys to win. Shit even Australia with about 15 million people do well in many sports.

I'll repeat this. Maybe it will sink in. Let's see what trend she creates. Either it will be a champion's trend or a Journeyman's trend. Time will tell...

Worse case scenario she made over a million net (given this country's punitive taxes ) so she's set for a while if not for life if she is smart with her money.

Anybody remember Brooke Henderson?

Serena wanted a child, can't fault her for that. The price she's paying is potentially not getting her 24th Slam, her best chance is at the French Open.

The media crush on Bianca is intense, she'll have no time to herself before preparing for Beijing. I wonder how she'll be received in the PRC? They probably don't want the point driven home that Canada is a success story. Too many rich Chinese are buying homes here, Xi and his Mao Princeling cohorts are going to be skittish. Apart from that, Bianca will have options for the start of 2020. As a Top 5 player, she may decide not to go to Auckland and concentrate on the Australian Open.

In the discussion among Legends (Becker, Wilander, McEnroe and Lendl) the question was asked: which player today most resembles their game. McEnroe said Denis Shapovalov, I agree. Shapo was adjusting to new muscle on his frame in 2019, he had a losing streak. He brought in Mikhail Youzhny as his coach in a tournament prior to the US Open, big improvement in his game. I like his chances in Australia.

Bianca will probably take up residence in The Bahamas - like Shapo has.

The main reason we have difficulty keeping athlete in this country is the insane tax rates (54% in the highest tax bracket).
The Liberals and NDP think 54% is too low and also have it kick in at a lower income level.

Second is weather for most outdoor sports.
Yes, but we excel at Winter sports. Some Summer sports like tennis, running and swimming can be played indoor.

You are looking at this wrong, you are saying let's give up our social services so that the 1% can keep more of their money. The rich have tax loopholes and expense incentives that they can avail themselves. The freedom of being citizen in a liberal democracy is a privilege, Milos (Monte Carlo), Shapo (Nassau) and eventually Bianca are not giving that up. Since they have earned it, they are not rent seekers, it doesn't bother me.

We should be like Greece where the national past time is to evade taxes.

Tax loop holes should be closed so the 1% actually pay more taxes than someone making minimum wage.

Ontario has a PC party in power and all they are doing is lining the pockets of their friends, destroying the environment so their friends can make more money, giving their friends cushy jobs which pays at least 6 figures. Ontario is stuck with those clowns for 3 years.

Canada currently has a Liberal party in power who will be voted out shorty. The Liberals have increased our debt to historic levels; a debt which will take at least 5 generations to pay the interest alone. But the drama teacher has been able to travel to almost every continent on this planet except Antarctica.

We are at the mercy of Dump, the President of the US of A s S who is causing global chaos, destroying our economy, imposing their moral superiority on everyone.

If you aren’t proud to be a Canadian then by all means leave I’m sure the US of A s S will welcome you with open arms like they have been doing.

She's the first 1st Canadian to claim a Grand Slam title. So naturally Canadians are celebrating her. She deserves the recognition for that, even if she doesn't win another. Your wait and see if she wins a few before you give her credit attitude certainly is a strange one. So just how many Grand Slams does she have to win before she gets the "jacal2006 seal of approval?"

Naturally Canadians were going wild when they won. It was a big achievement. But it's ridiculous to say "then look what happened" as if celebrating the win somehow prevented them from any future success. As if people shouldn't celebrate victories or individuals and teams don't deserve recognition until they win several titles. That's idiotic.

I'll repeat this. Maybe it will sink in. Let's see what trend she creates. Either it will be a champion's trend or a Journeyman's trend. Time will tell...
It's sunk in for myself and many Canadians across this country. She made history and it's time to celebrate that.

I'd love to hear her reply if you said "you're going to have to win a few more of those before I give you credit." Mind you, she's way to polite to tell you where to go.

Except that they don't, they squirrel away their holdings in tax havens like The Cayman Islands and Panama - have a look at the Panama Papers. Folks like Conrad Black and Trillionaire O'Leary defend their right to do so. KC Irving made it known that he would disown his children if they didn't take up residency in Bermuda, Irving Oil has made a killing refining oil from Venezuela and the Middle east coming into Canada. I haven't looked up if Newfoundland is refining it's own oil production or the Irvings are doing it for them. Can't blame Canadian tennis players for safeguarding their earnings.

I'm projecting net earnings of $40 million for Bianca by 2023, without endorsements.

@gameboy. I'm not passive aggresive like many people in this country. I'd gladly tell her to her face my opinion. If it ever came to that. I've done it before at work or other situations and people are usually shocked. They expect someone that is afraid to speak up and that's not me. Thank God my balls have dropped unlike many men in this country that are either castrated by this system.

As per your question if she wins one more I'll give her her due that it wasn't the stars aligning for her. Let's see time will tell who's right or wrong.

I looked up she's made over $6M dollars gross so eith the tax system in this country taking most of that for themselves (let's face it social services in this province at least are bad at best. Go to a doctor's office just to see) she can never win another grand slam again and not have to worry about money if she is smart about her money. Good for her. She invested in herself and it paid off.

Bianca has shown her mental toughness...quarter and semi-finals she was starting slow and have to overcome...

They would stay in Canada if taxes were lowered and/or if income earned in a foreign country is tax-exempt. The US$3.8 million that Bianca earned was for her performance in a foreign country call the United States. She is probably already paying U.S. tax on that money.

I doubt a Canadian tennis player can making a living playing tennis only in Canada.

P.S. The best way to prevent tax avoidance/evasion is to lower tax rates.

Similar to Mike Weir. How much did his rep suffer because he won only one Major? IMO, not a hell of a lot. He will forever be a Canadian hero.
