Will strip clubs survive COVID-19?

An exotic dancer that I was seeing regularly throughout the winter texted me last month to see how I was doing. I certainly hope some time this summer we can see each other again as she's the only woman who was giving me any joy at the time. And no, she didn't ask me for a handout. Dancing is just to supplement her income from her real job.

I don't know if we'll still be as intimate when we meet again but she seems to be one who thinks this whole thing is just a bit overblown.

Damn...the list of business that can open on Tuesday (19 May) did not include strip clubs. I am getting tired of pornhub. When are they gonna open strip clubs?

Likely they will not open in the next year. They have a very poor lobby. It will make headlines if they do open.

Not from your area, but my fave club just went under due to insurance costs. The pandemic blows the casualty/liability insurance business all to hell. OP right about clubs of any kind being in trouble. The successor to the SC I referred to (upscale country bar) has already gone under in less than a year...

I'm calling that they'll open Stripclubs when bars open but will have to keep the "champagne room" closed.

For rub and tug spas to open when hair dressers and estheticians open, then I think the MAs should wear a mask, gloves, and gown lol!
This will be a huge disincentive to visit my fave SC. The champagne room is the main draw: a chance for the strippers to earn a decent living and for the patrons, privacy with one-on-one fun with your dancer. Sitting in the open area, sipping a beer, watching dancers strut their stuff, and being hustled for a contactless "table" dance for $10 a shot isn't going to cut it for me, LoL.

Strip club in Wyoming has just opened, bars in Texas open Friday at 25 % capacity which is fine with me.

I believe the bars in B.C. will be the first in Canada to open, the two massage spas in Kelowna, The Dollhouse and Beachbunnies are opening this week.

Yes, the only reason I pay for overpriced drinks while sitting in a sleazy bar is the champagne room experience. Stage dances are just the warm up, and "contactless dances" have zero appeal to me.

This scenario would seem to be the most likely from a public health perspective, but it's difficult to imagine how it would be very appealling to the dancers from a business-model point of view (of course they might also find open CRs less than inviting, at least for a while or until a vaccine or treatment is established to be effective).

How would the dancers be compensated for stage shows in a closed CR situation? Even if the dancer's fee is waived (which affects the bar's revenue stream), what incentive would a dancer have for being there with a closed CR?

The whole thing makes me wonder if any of the local SCs will be around by the end of the year. Not meaning to be overly negative, but it's difficult to imagine an environment that is more destructive of the typical SC business model.

Very good points man, now let's progress this to the spa business model. Isn't spas a type of evolution of the SC by just eliminating the middle man (the stage and hustling), going straight to the back room for some even more anti-physical-distancing activities? Wouldn't it be more destructive to spas versus SC?
I'm not a spa guy so someone else can validate this. But I would think the spa would be seen as less of a risk considering there will be less people in the building and the interaction is one on one. Usually there is sanitizer, a sink with soap, and in most cases a shower available. Of course none of that matters if the person is already sick.

I heard that in Oregon they have set up "drive through" strip clubs. A tent is set up outside of the club. The customer drives into the tent area and can order food that he eats in the car.(hopefully drinks can be ordered too?). Meanwhile he is entertained by the dancing girls who perform adjacent to the car. Not a bad idea for a "phase 1" reopening for those of us who need a fix and would like to support our favourite dancers..

Unless things have changed in the last five years they don’t have contact dancing there.
Nope, things are still the same here. I don’t know how they stay in business, I guess from clientele that doesn’t have any other choices. Anyone who has been to a strip bar in Toronto would be sadly disappointed visiting a strip bar in Winnipeg.

On the Toronto SC boards someome started a thread titled 'Nothing new to comment on, let's hear those glory days stories'. Don't want to bore people with my personal opinions of what, where, who and when constituted the 'glory days', but the impulse behind the thread has made me more than a bit nostalgic.

Not sure if things will ever really be anything close to the same on the local (Ottawa/Gatineau) SC scene, but it's looking like it'll be some time before many folks are going to feel comfortable in the former SC/CR environment. Didn't think I was a real SC addict by any means but, having not been able to attend since late February, starting to miss the anticipation of a visit and the atmosphere of the the local haunts.

Managed to survive the 'retirement' of an ATF and then the demise of that dancer's venue (Barb's), but the situation in general seems so uncertain now and from so many standpoints - public health, club finances, continued dancer interest if/when there are club reopenings, perhaps even patron interest. Some have been suggesting that the 'Fax building will likely be sold at some stage and so it goes.......

Recall the intense interest and dismay (on another board) when, years before the event, the closure of Barb's was rumoured. Wonder if interest among patrons remains at a level high enough to justify the continued operation of the clubs. Will we be able to indulge again by Labour Day or Hallowe'en? Will one ever again be greeted by the endearingly chintzy Christmas lights at the 'Mate on a pre-holiday visit?

Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic and negative here but the situation seems less than rosy overall. Are the end days approaching?
