....April 7, 1977 was a damp winter day but I was elated to be there. Bill Singer, I believe he had pitched his entire career for the Dodgers. Not going to Google it.
Well, not his entire career. He pitched for Toronto on Opening Day 1977, you say you were there.
He also pitched for the Angels, Rangers & Twins.

I did not attend the game on 4/7/77, but did see the 1st of many live, on the Sunday following.

Baltimore and Pittsburgh has the two most beautiful ballparks in the MLs.
Ya think?
Both pretty ballparks, but I don't know that they're the Top 2.
Kaufman Stadium, Coors Field, Dodger Stadium, Petco Park, Oracle Park are all lovely ball fields,
I'm sure each would garner some votes.

I was still a teenager then, the weather was humid but not downright cold, it was tolerable. I attended much colder games at Exhibition Stadium.

I saw an NASL game between the Toronto Blizzard and the Chicago Sting, I nearly froze to death. The wind was blowing in from Lake Ontario and we got downright numb. A German friend wanted to see Klaus Toppmoller play and we payed the price. We would have fallen asleep had we tried to drink the beer we brought to the game. Again we were sitting at the top of the first base line, it's a day I'll never forget. I actually miss the old Ex, BMO Field is great but it doesn't have that anything goes dilapidated vibe.

Jays current record 51-73. There are 4 teams with a worse winning pct. than them. TBH better than I thought. Maybe some credit is due to the skipper Montoyo and his staff.

I think this management team can recognize talent but they are horrible traders. That Happ deal was pathetic. McKinney is a scrub so is Drury. We should have at least got one of their pitching prospects like Chance Adams. The Osuna deal was not as bad but it was still a poor deal. At the time Giles was so bad with Houston they had actually demoted him to AAA. Yes overall he's been very good since coming to Toronto but it was no secret that they were trying to shop him at the deadline but there was no market for him. The other pieces of the deal were David Paulino, who the Jays just released and Hector Perez who has had a sub par season in AA New Hampshire. And I won't even get started on the Donaldson trade to the Indians.

Hooooooly fuuuuuuuckkkkk.. We just explained all this in previous pages......

I think that just about sums up what guys on Bluebird Banter are saying. Far more knowledgeable than me or most of the guys on this board.

Be careful about criticism of management on TERB. There have been no bad deals.

I don't recall anyone stating that, in this thread.

Mingia! I hope you and George didn't get hurt.

The Jays bottomed out in 1979 and the teams for the next two seasons were no better. Then a miracle happened - Goose Gossagge got his lights punched out in the Yankees locker room by Cliff Johnson. In retrospect, after his put down of Joey Boom Bats bat flip, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Cliff was dumped on the Jays and that's when they started winning. He didn't stay long but he gave the team attitude.

Too quote Redd Foxx, Goose Gossagge is a big dummy, why would you take on a guy that looks like this:

I fixed your post for you.

BTW, can you provide some of your wonderful insight on how Charlie Montoyo is doing? I kind of miss the days when you would explain how the players didn't respect Gibbons and it translated into losses. It's that special gift you have of being able to tell this stuff from the comfort of your own home, and then quantifying how it directly resulted in losses. I can't find anyone else with that magical gift, so now that Montoyo's first season is winding down, I'd love to know what the players think of him. If they respect him etc.., and how many wins or losses you think it resulted in.

Here
Most beautiful Ball park is Kauffman Stadium IMO and it's nearing 50 years old.
From those I have seen either on TV or in person, I agree.

It just oozes atmosphere. Big, beautiful field and comfortable. I have not been there in person. But the game broadcasts, to me, just seem to say "come watch baseball under our big skies."

I remember the '85 ALCS , when the games were in KC, cameras would show every part of Royals Stadium to show how beautiful it was. When games were at "Exorcism", stadium the cameras would only show the playing field and very few shots of the seats, lol

Please tell us which deals you felt were bad. IIRC every deal that has been mentioned in the last few pages as possibly not being good, you gave responses indicating that you felt that that was wrong. As such, you inferred that there was not a single bad deal.

As well when I asked you which deals were clear winners, you avoided answering altogether saying that you're reserving judgement. Are you reserving judgement on every single deal?

It is my understanding that every seat in Kaufman Stadium is angled to 2nd Base.

What happened to all the Aaron Sanchez gushing?

Post-2016 Sanchez showed up last night: 5.1I 7H 6ER 4HR ....
But sure, Toronto got fleeced in that trade, it's already been determined.

When last seen, Joe Biagini was warming up in the bullpen for the AAA Round Rock Express.
Cal Stevenson is just tearing it up in A ball with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, with a .242 batting average since the trade.

On the Blue Jays side of the ledger, Derek Fisher is mashing the ball.
In his most recent appearance (tonight), he's hitting 1.000, with a home run, 2 R.B.I.'s so far.

See how silly (some might say stupid/foolish) it is to try to evaluate a baseball trade 2 weeks after it has occurred?
