Is it my imagination or are these shootings here in the GTA getting worse??
It seems we have a shooting almost every day now.

We had one on Christmas Eve: https://torontosun.com/news/crime/man-33-shot-dead-in-richmond-hill-on-christmas-eve
And another one today, boxing day: https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/teen-in-serious-condition-after-jane-finch-shooting

The gangbangers were nice enough to take a break on Christmas day.

So whats the solution??
I get your concern. Fortunately, it's mostly shitheads just killing shitheads. It sucks that innocent people do sometimes get caught up in it and get hurt/injured, but aside from patrolling well known gang areas, and retaliation spots when initial shootings happen, there's honestly not too much that can be done. I will say that the number has gone up since carding was abolished though.

I know the number has gone up, but in the grand scheme of things it's still not THAT bad. Think about how many people live in the GTA. Obviously if the police were given unlimited resources and power, things would be different. Trust me though, given what they have, they are doing the best they can.

I more or less agree with you. When gangbangers are knocking each other off it only saves taxpayers a lot of money in future court costs.

It does however reflect bad on the city when there's bullets flying around every day.
Its just a matter of time before we have another Jane Creba situation

Excuse me for sounding crass, for the most part the shootings are simply a thinning of the herd. As long as they are killing each other who cares, it’s one less douchebag we have to house in prison. Let’s face it, the majority of the shootings are gang on gang shootings.

The problem is that they have bad aim.

All legal handguns are registered and their owners are required to have a firearms license.

There is no argument here about whether handguns need to be registered and whether their owners need to have a firearms license.

A restricted firearms licensee applicant needs to pass a 2 day course, and submit to a police background check. You don't get a license if you have a violent past and/or you have a criminal record.

A restricted licensee then gets a background check in the Canadian Police Information Centre database 365 times a year.
And as I've said repeatedly I have little issue with Canadian gun laws. We hit a reasonable balance.

What I don't like is that most of the terb gun lobby object to the idea of registration as a plot by "gun grabbers" but have no issue with the potential "car grabbers".

Remind me when the last time a vehicle registry was utilized as a knee jerk, political tool. Did they suddenly reclassify cube vans as "assault vehicles" and try to restrict or prohibit their ownership and use after an attack?

Now your claim is that registration doesn't bother you, just that it's being proposed to stop gun crime? And no, we don't need to promote vehicle registration after a van attack because it already exists.

p.s. the same complaints were used about vehicle registration a hundred years ago.

"Police alone cannot eliminate gun violence. If it was possible to arrest your way out of this problem, the United States would have the lowest homicide rate in the developed world. Per capita, the U.S. has 50 per cent more police officers than Canada and 500 per cent more people in jail, but its homicide rate is 400 per cent higher than ours."

Quite simply the gun violence in the GTA cannot be reduced in a free society with a generous nanny state and the current socio-economic mix coupled with us bordering with a gun happy nation to the south. Things will actually get worse moving forward. Actions like the million man march in American, orchestrated by the people for the people will do much more than LE or politicians who's hands are tied.

Strange thing is that the societies that have truly generous social programs have the lowest crime rates. Strong social programs are not the problem, they are a big part of the solution.

Gun crime in Toronto is with handguns and handguns are still required to be registered to their licensed owners. In fact, they have since 1937.

The only reason to register cars is to allow them on public roads and to permit police to identify them without stopping them first.

A car is not required to be registered if it's not driven on public roads.

Registering a rifle does not allow it to be identified from a distance. Registration of rifles did not depend on where they were used.

Cars and Rifles? It was apples and oranges.

"The judge gave Jackson two years and 3.5 months credit for time served in pretrial custody, including four months for the harsh conditions he experienced during lockdowns in jail."

Prisons in Canada are like holiday resorts compared to US prisons. The Canadian justice system coddles these criminals. He would have got at least a 20 year sentence in the US, and no time credited for 'harsh conditions'.

The Canadian courts are partially responsible for the rising gun crime in Canada, because they don't really punish.

So did Canadian authorities contact the US BATF/FBI so he could be prosecuted upon deportation at the end of his Canadian sentence for straw purchasing, illegal export and conspiracy in the US? Probably not. In fact, we should get rid of this trash and let the US deal with him in their own way, and let the Canadian taxpayer off the hook for his incarceration.

In any case, Ontario Crown prosecutors usually drop all gun charges when dealing with gangbangers so they can get an easy plea bargain and dispose of the case rapidly. They're back om the street in no time laughing at the system.
