As I said, it is an all-time favourite and as such I've seen all the scenes dozens of times. They are not of the thrilling genre regardless of your interpretation. They are a reference to the social, moral wares of the time. No suspense. Nothing thrilling, regardless of your interpretation.

The movie overall is a character study and of document what those times were like in NYC.

BTW, AFAIK it is the only movie ever where two actors from the same movie were nominated for best actor.

Operative word . . . . .'interpretation'. How any of us see this Cult Classic is entirely subjective.

Problably why acting gods . . . . . Brando, Hoffman, Pacino etc. could give a shit about the 'opinions' of pseudo intellectuals, wannabe movie aficionado's etc.
