A guy in London responded to an online ad and met a woman at a hotel. There was another man there so he decided not to go ahead with the encounter. The man and woman stopped him from leaving without payment and they injured and robbed him. The victim reported the incident to the police and the man and woman at the hotel were charged with robbery with violence and the robbery victim was charged with communicating to obtain sexual services.
It seems foolish for the police to charge the victim. This will discourage others from reporting crimes, including trafficking.

This is the danger under BillC36 brought in under the Harper Conservative government and this is why you should never give your real life info. If even a reputable lady's data were to get into the hands of LE, you may be getting a knock on your door.

I agree with the OP. The cops should have exercised discretion and not laid charges.

Agreed but under current Canadian law they can and all it takes is to end up with a righteous holier than though officer you admitting to offering to pay for sex.

"Obtaining sexual services for consideration, or communicating in any place for that purpose (section 286.1)"
"Those who sell their own sexual services are protected from criminal liability for participating in the commission of this offence if the offence relates to their own sexual services (subsection 286.5(2))"

"Bill C-36 criminalizes, for the first time in Canadian criminal law, the purchase of sexual services. This new offence makes prostitution itself an illegal practice; every time prostitution takes place, regardless of venue, an offence is committed. In criminalizing those who create the demand for prostitution, "

Under bill C-36 it is illegal to purchase sexual services. I've said numerous times when booking with SP's do not use emails nor texts so there are no records of it. Phone calls are the best option and avoid any SP who is not able to take a quick phone call to book an appointment.

Agree Bill C-36 is a legislation that is targeting clients.
It's a bill that it is illegal to
- Obtain sexual services for consideration or communicating anywhere for that purpose

Once there are texts, or emails it's a lot easier to convict of the offense, meanwhile for phone calls you would have to have a phone wire tap which would mostly happen in a sting and that is a lot less likely to happen.
