Baffling Montreal Protest

There is a group of black block anarchist types well known in Montreal. They do this for various reasons every summer in the city.

When worked the G20 here the Montreal cops I talked to told me they expected to see "old friends" that night.

As Butler1000 says, there is a long history of "black bloc" here. It is a mix of actual anarchists and your basic mayhem tourists and bored rich kids. There are a bunch of cop provacateurs thrown in for when the cops want to bust some heads.

Once the tradition of BB exists, then assholes on both sides can use it to escalate because non-violent protests are "boring".

Its not even same country so I am not sure what they thought the local police could do....

Unlike the weaksauce cops in Toronto who ignored protestors, the Montreal police declared the gathering and attacked with pepper spray and tear gas (good for them!)

Protestors of course took this as a reason to loot and smashed windows and burnt businesses

Lots of things went wrong and it is stupid. Some white guys were writting creyol things in the walls to make it as a black person did it. They also took advantage of the situation to destroy stores of course. Since the student crisis or red square, police has no tolerance for manifestation too. They were pumped from the beginning. Also very weird to consider they destroy a place in Montreal that is a red zone of COVID. The Governor hotel, at Berri Uqam, is used completly for people with covid. I would not even take a walk around there. Good cause, wrong hole.

They should be protesting how badly the Habs suck.
