Walz ‘fully’ activates National Guard, says unrest is ‘no longer, in any way, about the murder of George Floyd’

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) announced Saturday that he was “fully” mobilizing the National Guard, a first in the state’s history, to help control the violent unrest that followed peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd while in police custody.

“Let’s be very clear, the situation in Minneapolis is no longer in any way about the murder of George Floyd,” Walz said.

The governor said he had “sensitivity to the legitimate rage and anger” that Minnesotans felt after Floyd’s death, which manifested earlier in the week with “healthy gathering of community.”
By Thursday, Walz said that peaceful protest was gone and that the destruction Friday night made a “mockery” of Floyd’s death.

“At this point of time, it is nothing short of a blessing that we have not had someone killed as an innocent bystander in this,” Walz said.

The governor said the tactics of first responders will be to reduce loss of life and property in the state, where small businesses and community nonprofits were damaged in the unrest.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) and Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter (D), who also spoke during the news briefing, said the violent demonstrators weren’t from their cities. Carter said there were “relatively few arrests” during Friday night’s protests, but the people arrested were all from other states.
“Those folks are agitating and inciting and taking advantage of the pain, hurt, frustration, anger and real and legitimate sadness that so many of our community members feel to advocate for the destruction of our communities,” Carter said.

Walz warned of more protesters gathering Saturday night spurred by increased police presence.
“This is only going to make it more difficult tonight,” Walz said.
Minnesota National Guard Maj. Gen. Jon Jensen told reporters that there were already 700 guardsmen mobilized as of early Saturday but by noon, there will be 2,500 guard members activated and they were requesting federal assistance.

“What does that mean? It means we’re all in,” Jensen said.

Trump threatens 'vicious dogs' and 'ominous weapons' could have been used on White House protesters

May 30, 2020, 12:02 PM EDTUpdated May 30, 2020, 1:03 PM EDT
Trump appeared to quote an agent, writing on Twitter “‘We put the young ones on the front line, sir, they love it…’”

Trump tweeted that Saturday would be "MAGA NIGHT AT THE WHITE HOUSE," but it is unclear what he was referencing.

Trump also wrote on Twitter that "It’s ANTIFA and the Radical Left. Don’t lay the blame on others!"

Antifa groups, short for anti-fascists, organized counter-protests to the deadly "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville in 2017. Trump was criticized for saying that there were "very fine people" on both sides, despite the killing of Heather Heyer by a Unite the Right participant.

Trump was asked at the White House on Friday if he was willing to say there there were "good people" protesting in Minneapolis.

"Well, certainly there were a lot of different people, and they were good people too," Trump said.

Trump has been criticized for inciting violence and shirking his responsibility as president to call for peaceful demonstrations in the aftermath of Floyd’s death.

Twitter put a tweet from Trump about the protests behind a warning label early Friday, stating that he had violated its rules against glorifying violence because of the historical context of his last line: "When the looting starts, the shooting starts."

Trump’s comments about the Floyd protesters are in stark contrast to how he has called on other world leaders to respond to civil unrest.

In January, Trump tweeted “To the leaders of Iran - DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS,” after nationwide demonstrations broke in response to a 50 percent hike in gas prices and escalated after the Iranian government admitted it shot down a passenger plane.

Trump called on President Xi Jinping of China in August to meet with protesters in Hong Kong in order to deescalate the student-led demonstrations demanding greater democracy.

“If President Xi would meet directly and personally with the protesters, there would be a happy and enlightened ending to the Hong Kong problem,” Trump tweeted, adding that he was confident Xi could “humanely” resolve the situation.

As I said before. This only occurs if the leadership of the nation fails to take care of it's citizens.

No healthcare, social safety net, employment protections. Militarized police, media fanning divisions. Hopelessness, helplessness, and a month's long pandemic lockdown.

A nice big powder keg.

This was a match. The only question now is does a spark reach the main armory.

I'm sure you want things back to normal. You might want to look at Obama's recent comments on what normal constitutes for many. "Later, we can solve your problems later" only works for so long.

The footage I saw was a mix. The CNN headquarters footage was black people. Other cases white people.

White people are poor, unemployed, without medical care and thrown in jail for stupid reasons too. Didn't the arrest of the CNN crew tell you anything?

Careful. Lots of those protesters were probably Antifa. Who you defended when they faced off against those Neo nazi pieces of shit. They don't see the police, the Well Fargo Bank the burned, the Target they looted as any different. My militant friends are posting the memes from the sites who support them.

You are now acting like the white Liberal MLK, Malcolm X and Van Jones spoke of.

Just the politicians who created and/or perpetuated the conditions.

And there is a difference between cheerleading and explaining the reasons. Are you saying the protests are wrong?

I'm glad you are are comfortable and safe. Many of your fellow Americans are not. They are living precariously and unsafely due to conditions beyond their control.

So what do you propose to do about it?

I have an idea. Why don't the looters do like the monks over in China did to protest their oppression.

Light themselves on fire. Now that would get some attention.

Despite what the media might have us believe, the number of my fellow Americans who are "living precariously and unsafely due to conditions beyond their control" is extremely low, lower in fact than it has ever been. The vast, vast majority of my fellow citizens who are "living precariously and unsafely" under any circumstance are doing so due to the poor choices they themselves have made, or in many cases choices their parents made.

As to what I propose to do about it, I only control myself. Accordingly, I'll continue to help those truly in need through my service and financial support. I will also vote for political candidates who support values of personal responsibility and self-reliance.

Does that answer your question?

Great.

I'm going to leave you with these thoughts.....

Your govt doesn't seem to think personal responsibility applies to the corporate recipients of four trillion of your tax dollars who went with big dividends and stock buybacks as opposed to having cash for a rainy day.

The same ones who laid people off.

And the same govts themselves didn't bother to have enough PPE on hand to even supply hospitals for a week. But seem to have enough Body Armour, Flashbangs, tear gas, shields, troop carriers, liquid jets and rubber bullets to put down protests in thirty cities within a day.

And what does that say about how they feel about their own citizens? And what their priorities are for them?

Sleep well.

People have noticed.

There are definitely some chaos tourists involved. There also seem to be some Bugaloo folk hoping to speed up Helter Skelter. Given the police escalation, the odds of them having agents is pretty high, and the cosplay anarchist types have probably shown up too. (although a lot of them are just chaos tourists or police agents)
