Name 6 players only, that is the #1 player in the respective positions.

This would be my team:

Goalie: Johnny Bower
Left Defence: Borje Salming
Right Defence: Tim Horton
Left Wing: Frank Mahovlich
Centre: Darryl Sitter
Right Wing:Rick Vaive

Agree. You can't compare hockey from various era's. Have you seen hockey from the 60's? In black and white? The game is nothing like it is today. To put Horton on that team just goes to say that the Leafs never had any good defensemen in the modern era. Kaberle is worshipped for crying out loud. Leafs did have a Norris winner in Carlyle but they traded him away before he got there. Even with a Norris win no one ever talks about him as a great defenseman.

Salming started in '73 (same year as Turnbull). I'd give him both decades.
I'd put Pulford ahead of Armstrong.
I'd also put Brewer ahead of Baun.

Only the people who didn't see him play.
How can you compare Keon to the players of today. Keon wouldn't even be better than Matthews and Matthews is just starting his career. Keon is good but in his prime even Sundin was better. Have to say though Keon's skating was far superior to most playing during his time. Very smooth. Sittler never looked like a smooth skater yet he was a scoring machine during his era. Sort of like a Bryan Trottier. A true leader though.

Sittler could fight but he didn't hit like Trottier. I would pick Sundin ahead of him - on the rare occasions he hit someone they stayed hit. I still remember the forearm shiver he gave Marian Hossa after Bryan Berrard lost an eye.

To run the team, it unanimous: Richard Peddie.

How can anyone compare goalie's of different era's. Bower was playing without a face mask for crying out loud. Imagine Chara taking a slapper at Bower without a face mask.

Keon and this from a Habs fan was a fantastic hockey player.

A tremendous two way player who was as tough on the puck as it gets. A born leader who always brought his ''A'' game in the playoffs.

He's on my all time Leaf Team.

Keon was vastly superior to the other two defensively while still being a very good offensive player. Awesome on the PK.

As a comparison, I think that Peyton Manning was much, much better than Brady, but people say no way because of the 6 SB rings. Well, Keon has 4 rings (plus a Conn Smythe and a couple of Lady Byngs) to their zeroes.

And Keon was picked the greatest all time Leaf by a panel of experts.

That's how.

All we can do is compare the dominance in their generation and relative skill set.
Exactly. Rocket Richard would probably have played in today's AHL.

Wow, you have Jim Mckenny ahead of Borje Salming in the 70's??? Salming was a 1st team all star a couple of times in the 70's, he should have one at least one Norris Trophy. He took Randy Carlyle under his wing and taught him everything he knew, Carlyle went on to win he Norris withh the Penguins.

Mckenny played drunk most of the time and was considered a "floater" , and was scared to face the Flyers at the Spectrum.

Yes, so called experts but not every single 100% of them. Thank you for using bold and italics.
No denying his defensive acumen was far superior to any of Matthews, Sundin, or Sittler but I would say his offense prowess easily is 4th in this group.
If the OP was following the so called expert list he wouldn't need to start this thread.

Hope someone finds a spot for Harvey "Busher" Jackson.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busher_Jackson

"Jackson led the league in scoring in 1931–32 and was a member of Toronto's 1932 Stanley Cup championship team. He was named to five NHL All-Star Teams"
Where do you rank Aurel Joliet? Compare him to Blake, Beliveau, Richard, Lafleur, Cournoyer, Geoffrion, Morenz, Lach?
