Particularly when the mother didn't even witness it; but was initially portraying that she did.

Well, that's where the GoFundMe at over $100,000 comes in, I guess. More $$$ than mom has ever had in her life, I'm thinking.

Why would the cops push the decedent off the balcony?.... I can't think of a reason. They may have not taken enough time to talk her down or been careless. But why would they deliberately kill her?

On a balance of probabilities, what would you think is the more likely story?

The anti-white sentiment is already simmering close to the surface here. Being out and about the last few days in various retail locations, the resentment, anger and hatred of whites by blacks is being felt in a very overt way.
Sounds like you're projecting. Which stores and locations were these? Did they give you the bad eye? Didn't like what you said to them when you placed your order? Did you say Ma ni... when addressing any? It's interesting you felt this from the entire black populace just in the past few days "being out and about."

I hope they don't deny you housing or a job. That'll really piss you off.

A family member needs to be taken to some
mental health institute immediately. If she is not
cooperative am I supposed to call the police for
help? Are paramedics trained to handle mental
health patients?

If the person is in imminent danger of harming themselves or others due a mental illness; then the police are empowered to arrest someone under The Mental Health Act and bring them to a Hospital for assessment. It is the attending physician at the Hospital who decides if the individual should be placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold, otherwise known as a Form 1.

Paramedics, to my knowledge, are not trained to handle mental health calls.

I could be wrong but paramedics are not trained to deal with people in full blown mental crisis. Epilepsy is perhaps the worst, she must have had a partial seazure, no way she would be able to jump balconies on a total one.

HOLY FUCK! I looked up drugs to treat epilepsy and Topamax came up. I was on that drug after my car accident. I only used the samples the neurologist gave me, I didn't activate the script. The drug was much too powerful - it turned into a dopey bed ridden coocoozz.

Coocoozz is slang for egg plant.

I'm not sure he's wrong.

A few years ago after the then A-G of Ontario (?) slammed a bike courier against an object with his car and was investigated for manslaughter, there was a palpable rise in anger and aggression by cyclists downtown. I was flipped the finger a number of times while I drove. I'm middle aged, white, wear a suit, look conservative - in other words, a great target for a 25 year old hipster on a bike.

It's never happened before or since. Call it coincidence?

How many times? 3? 7? 10? It's funny how some get bad looks 3 or 4 times and they melt with this woe onto me. I wish they could have lived relentless life experiences and not short snap shots in time. This is so similar to when one segment of society says 'this isn't the America I know' when they learn of non-White experiences south of the border. I am not talking about an unfriendly look and middle finger.

It's so cute when I see some people complain about being called a mean name (especially one not loaded) or not being afforded the adoration they thing they deserve just for being them.

The false equivalence is so disingenuous, but it's not new and does nothing to help eliminate REAL racism. But here are. I'm guessing people are really not learning from what's taking place. So tone deaf!

They actually don't even need a warrant to enter the home of the mentally ill person if the police are called. I can't remember what the code is but if they get that "suicide" call, they can enter any dwelling legally to save that person. Even a private home or apartment.

And yes paramedics are on scene with police when they arrive. They let the police do the work and are there for ensuring the health and safety of the person and for transportation to the hospital.

I'm not saying that there's an equivalence.

I'm just saying that there may indeed be a heightened level of tension and evident signs of hostility.

That is human nature. I'm pretty sure you saw how Asians were on high alert when Covid19 started to take shape. They knew they were going to experience the 'looks' and probably be targets of violence. I remember sitting in an airport lounge a few months ago beside a White man who did look at me with disdain but he didn't say shit to me. He did have a lot to say when he saw an Asian couple with masks though. "Yeah, keep those masks on you nasty fucks" he said.

What the poster was talking about is a snapshot in time, but some groups experience this on a daily basis. Imagine if he had to live that and worse on a daily basis all his life.

The looks, the clutching of the purse, the walking through the door for a job interview and being met with the 'let me humour him, but he definitely won't be hired' look or the 'are you sure you're here for the accounting job and not the janitor one' talk? Or just the 'this neighbourhood is not for you'. The Don Cherry attitudes even!!

He's noticing just the black attitudes to his existence? He may want to pay attention to some of the others, unless it's just the 3 or 4 black one's he's studying at the moment. They may not even be cut eye-ing because he's white. I get it almost every time I step into Mr Jerk in Malton. I don't even live near there, but make the drive all the way there for a purpose. I just ignore their 'I hate my job' look, get my food and leave.

This is just speculation on my part.

I have a hunch that the police didn't react quickly enough to the situation. It may have looked like she was being pushed when they tried to catch her. Maybe a policeman didn't want to go over the balcony in the attempt - it would have resulted in two deaths.

Had the policemen been successful in containing her, the paramedics (who were most certainly in the hallway) would have come in and sedated her.

Topamax is a helluva drug - and I do mean HELL.

I don't believe the cops threw her off the balcony. I believe in her state of mental crisis she attempted to escape the police by climbing from one balcony to another; and fell on her own accord.

Ms. Wong-Tam has taken the predictable position that the SIU investigation is tainted from the start; so why bother to wait until all the facts come out?

Chief Saunders said that the 911 call(s) mentioned a knife was involved and he wouldn't want to send a nurse into such a dangerous situation.

"Not Another Black Life" (never heard of them before) is to hold a protest to the killing of Regis Korchinski Paquet at the hands of the police today at Christie Pitts.

What? No protest over the murder of "Houdini" ?

BTW: No evidence that the police killed Miss Paquet,
