The CFL has stated it won't start now IF at all until September and the Grey Cup will not be the normal celebration it usually is. The first place team with the best record will host the GC. Regina was supposed to host buthas been moved to 2022 Should they they just call it off for 2020?

Competing head to head with the NFL seems like a recipe for disaster. Who's going to pay to go see a CFL game live when there is a better NFL game on TV at the same time? and with the NFL TV coverage in NA, it will be 24/7 NFL in the fall for sure. Bye CFL! Nice knowin' ya'!

They'd be better off cancelling their 2020 season and trying to figure out how to survive financially until they can come back with a better, more attractive product in 2021.

I don't follow the CFL anywhere as near as I use to. I like the Canadian game. Larger field and much larger end zone. 3 downs. Single points.

I hate the NFL's touchback and the tiny end zones.

Should a team be rewarded with points even if they can't advance the ball to the end zone and are forced to kick it away?

Not only that. You get a point for a missed field goal if the defending team can't get it out of the end zone. The stupidest rule in sports.

But, If the game is on the line on the last play of game, the defending team can kick the ball out of the end zone, if successful the opponent can kick the ball back in and it begins again, the defending team can kick the ball out again and so forth....the most exciting play in football!!

The one play that I really enjoy and cheer for is the recovery of a punt by the kicking team. The kicker can recover it as well as any player who is behind the kicker when the ball is put into the air. It only occurs a couple of times a year, but it's novelty is unique to the eccentric Canadian game.

Alternatively, the receiving team can try and run the ball out of the end zone.

I heard that Gene Gaines actually ran the ball back 128 yards in one game.

We're talking about a league where you can miss a field goal and still win the game, what other league or sport actually rewards failure? I am in my mid 40's and all I recall from this league is their joke blackouts, they lost an entire generation of fans who simply had no other alternative but to turn to the NFL especially those of us in southern Ontario. Now they want a government handout of $150 million! There is no way government at any level should be subsidizing pro sports, we dont want to go down the road of the US where pro sports owners, are shouting give me money or I will move the team. Move the Argos out of Toronto, the vast majority will not care because we have no connection to the team or league.

This is a league that's been around forever, but 98% of fans couldn't even name the 9 starting QBs in the league. scouser1 is 100% correct - for the vast majority of sports consumers and canadian-based football fans there is precious little connection to the CFL as a league, its teams, or its players. If it changed to NFL-style rules, it might actually survive, but the pig-headed boomers refuse to listen.

Outside of Toronto, the CFL is a viable entity and a strong part of Canadian culture.

I agree and can only speak being from Toronto, but let's be honest, outside of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver this is a viable entity, so let's make it a small town league. Move the Argos to Kitchener or London, have them play in a 20 to 25k stadium that will always be full, let's stop pretending that people in Toronto actually care about this league. Wasnt it sad when one of the Argos Grey Cup parades was actually staged downtown on purpose during a lunch hour, in order to seem that people who came out of their offices were actually there for the parade. The vast majority of fans of the Argos are white, male and boomers, this isnt a reflection of the city, go to a Leafs, Raptors or Jays game to see what Toronto really looks like.

CFL is looking for a bailout of 150M.

I think that is a little excessive to be honest.
I think it's downright ridiculous, government should never handout money to pro sports, sorry if you can't survive in a struggle for people's entertainment dollar, then you should restructure your business model or go bankrupt. And please spare me the singing and dancing of it's part of Canadian culture, if we felt so attached to it in great numbers then they wouldn't be asking for what is basically corporate welfare.
