Does anyone care anymore about CFL?

Before the Jays, Raptors and TFC, the Argonauts were a pretty big deal in town.

The CFL still draws very high TV ratings and is tremendously popular in most markets in Canada.

This despite the proliferation of the NFL propaganda machine.

Personally I enjoy both products.

Oracle is 100% correct. And that's because there is not one other place in the country that has as many options as the ones you listed for Toronto.

CFL has been DOA for years. The fact they are already declaring publicly their insolvency less than 3 months after the pandemic was declared is proof. C'mon, man. A business like the CFL should be much better able to weather the current economic storm than it is.

Truth is that the CFL has been insolvent for many MANY years, it just wasn't really common knowledge to anyone but the league, ownership, and the banks. Now the banks are resisting teeing up for more losses, as are the deep pocket owners of some of the privately held teams. I say let it die. Something else will invariably spring up to take its place. If that is a football product, great. If football can't make a go of it financially in Canada anymore, tough cookies. Time to move on until it can. Definitely not a taxpayer issue though.

Agreed.

Even though I actually like CFL football, I'm not so sure that gov't should be propping up businesses and leagues that can't make it on their own.

That said, they've been propping up horseracing for decades now. Two wrongs don't make a right, but if I had to pick, I would redirect the $$ gov't funnels to the ponies to the CFL - only because I actually watch/attend a few CFL games, but could care less which drugged up horse can run around a track faster.

CFL is a business and should be treated just like any other business. How many companies in Canada have received government handouts? Lots, GM, Chrysler, don't even get me started on SNC and Bombardier,Mastercard, all the big banks, landlords during this Covid crisis, you could go on and on.

So I say yes.Give the CFL a helping hand.
