Anyone find it interesting that the NHL has a plan for a restart and yes without a timeline, but the other big leagues NBA and especially MLB cant get their act together, with the latter having 2 sides arguing over insane amounts of money, meanwhile millions are unemployed or have had their businesses go bankrupt.

This is the opportunity for the NHL to gain more TV revenue if the NBA and Cheaters Ball (MLB) can't get their act together.

My guess is it's not really a function of the league's management, but more a function of the primadonna players that comprise the league, and their collective attitude that the expression 'respect me' = 'pay me excessively'.

I would disagree and say the problem is the owners, take for example A's owner John J. Fisher a man estimated to be worth $2 billion, cutting a $400 a week stipend for his minor league players, which saves him a million dollars a year, basically pocket change to him. Sorry in every single case I will always side with the employee and not the employer.

In that case. there will be times that you are on the wrong side. No one side is always right.

Fair enough. You aren't by any chance a 'union guy' IRL are you?

Yes I am a union member, but workers' rights are workers rights, no matter what job they are in or how much money they are making. On a side note, how many of you guys just think that this is the realization that the NHL season is just too long, I love hockey but the prospect of watching it in July just doesnt hold up for me.

You won't even be watching it in July.

They've dropped the hope for a June start - the new target date for starting training camp is mid-July at the earliest; games to start in August.

Players have expressed privately that they're concerned the timetable... that they will literally have sat around for 4 months, return to play 3 to 5 games, and then if they lose they sit around for another 4 months.

The sooner they bury this turkey the better.
For f*ck sakes just start a new preseason in September, like they always do.

I think Bettman said they would lose $1.1billion in revenue. This might impact the salary cap for 2020-21.

Lowering the salary cap would cause issues, so they'd probably just claim it back in escrow and the fans wouldn't notice.

The salary cap might not go up but all teams remain affected equally.

The Leafs major problem would be that Dubas has so front-loaded his contracts that they have $58 million coming out of the bank account July 1st regardless.

So the MLSE Board of Directors might be forced to accept an upper limit to the expense accounts for their pregame meals at Harbour 60.
Maybe they'll have to host their golf tournaments closer to home rather that flying out to Predator Ridge, all expenses paid. My tears are flowing as I write this.

Same. It really doesn't take 162 baseball games or 82 hockey/basketball games to craft a compelling championship tournament.

True, but it makes for a good regular season.

More games = more money = higher salaries

As Bettman said: "We need the playoffs or we lose $1.1billion".

If by 'good', you mean boring, meaningless, uninspired, monotonous, and superfluous games supported by boring, repetitive, and uninteresting sportscasters and analysts...then sure. Makes for a 'good' regular season.

Do you believe that if the balance of the current season was cancelled, the league itself or any of the owners would be at risk of going under? It's greed, my friend, nothing more than greed.

It's not just the owners. Players want to play. They're the ones busting their butts out there and risking their health. Players get paid for the regular season. Playoff money to the players is a pittance. Everything in life is a risk. It's degrees of risk. An opportunity to win the Stanley Cup for a hockey player is a very strong driving force. Athletes have short careers. If you were an athlete you have to take this into consideration. You can't hibernate a few years out of your short career.

Does everybody always have to agree with everything you say, or are we entitled to form and express our own opinions? (see how that works? good.)

Now, why don't you go back to chasing Darts all over the board, quoting and responding to virtually every single post he makes. It's what you seem to do best.

Hey John, don't encourage him. LOL!

We all know how smart he thinks he is. Let's leave it at that.

Typical bluster. No substance.
