No one really cares. No one I talk to in my extended group of friends is talking about the lack of NHL hockey games as any sort of serious issue whatsoever. Even if the league did manage to come back in some limited form, interest in buying a ticket and actually attending a game with 10-12thousand other people will be low due to health concerns. Maybe more interest in televised games, as there is precious little else on tv these days. Watching a trainwreck is still better than watching reruns and has-beens on netflix for some. I'd say just kill the current season and start up a new season late in the fall if the pandemic is showing real signs of abating. Otherwise, wait till Jan 2021 and run a shorter season.

There's a similar thread going on in this section about soccer. They're trying to convince me that there still will be huge interest in it. I'm not buying it. It's just the same in empty stadiums. To me this is a back half of the season investment. They just hoping the back of the season is saved so they'll play in empty stadiums at the start. That way when things get back to somewhat normal, they're already up and running.

As for the NBA and NHL, fucking put a nail in it already.

I say end season now, Bruins have the best record, declare them NHL champions, for 2019/20, not Stanley Cup champs.

Bettman will do whatever the owners tell him to do. If the NHL can comply with public health regulations in the proposed "hub' cities by mid June and there is TV revenue to be generated (not sure how the contracts are structured) there will be pressure from the owners to hold playoffs without fans in attendance - even if they go into late August/early September.

I think it's a good idea as people are going through covid exhaustion. Why do people care if they restart, how does it affect you? How much will large corporations be willing to spend on the 30 second ads as that will be most of their revenue streams. Nhl is a gate driven revenue league for the most part. Will the big car companies spend on ads if nobody has the money or lockdowns prevent them from buying?

Just read that the AHL has cancelled balance of this season and the playoffs - no idea what this means for the NHL - but don't imagine it is a good sign as they are both facing the same logistical issues regarding the pandemic.

The AHL is really no more significant than the CFL. If it disappears altogether, it wouldn't be missed by many, or for long. In terms of value for money, you're probably better off watching a Midget AAA game in the GTHL.

Tell us, where would players who have graduated from university/college, junior hockey, who aren't quite ready, or good enough to go straight to the NHL play? I'm pretty sure they'd be ineligible for Midget AAA leagues.
The CFL is the 2nd best professional football league in the world (not counting the SEC).

The point is, nobody cares if/where they play. If they can't survive financially, it's probably THE best indicator that nobody cares if/where they play. When the AHL announced they were shutting down the season, there was zero public outcry. There has been virtually zero public response whatsoever. That deafening silence is the general public all collectively NOT CARING IF THEY PLAY OR NOT. The same for the CFL. NO ONE CARES.

I care, and I'm sure thousands of others who follow the league care also. But what's the point of throwing a tantrum and getting our panties bunched up over it when social distancing rules our everyday lives currently? And the NHL's tentative plan to go with 30-man rosters would deplete AHL rosters anyway, so where would they get players from to fill the holes?

If the AHL and CFL players were females they would be demanding equal pay with men.
If the AHL and CFL players were females, there would be much more talent and toughness in those leagues than there is now, that's for sure.
