My understanding is that Netflix will not allow you to use a VPN. I got a message to that effect.
With my VPN service you need to buy an extra add on called a dedicated IP.

You will be provided an IP that only use will use to connect to the country of your choice and use Netflix. It will not be blocked as the IP is dedicated to you and Netflix will not have it banned as a VPN service IP. If it does get banned for some reason they will provide a new one.

It is about $50 a year extra. I got it for a month and decided that there wasn't much more on US Netflix than Canada and canceled the service.

Thanks. Good to know.

I have been using Nord VPN and it is useful with Netflix, but with some drawbacks. The first is that it is only useful on your computer, the VPN app doesnt work on a smart TV with Netflix. I contacted them about this, and they said that it doesnt and there is nothing they can do. Also not every country will work with it and Netflix, I have had 100% success with the US, British and French Netflix, but all in all despite the limits, I am very happy with it.

I used a free VPN two months ago, it slows down the browser a bit, but it's nothing. I stopped using it as soon as I found out it wasn't safe because all your personal data is stored in their logs. So I use Veepn https://veepn.com/. It clears your logs. This is a reliable VPN.

Nothing is fee. Remember that Free VPNs have a price that advertisers etc are paying to get your private information. Also, there used to be a free Israeli VPN (that I cannot remember the exact name) that was the first to offer the Free VPN and you could get Netflix content anywhere around the globe that was not available in Canada. What came to light was that they were offering your IP address as one of your Canada locations. That could have meant severe penalties for you if Netflix traced your address. But here are some that are being recommended:

Yeah I used to use it.
It was hola: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hola_(VPN)

It was not that Netflix could get you in deep shit but rather anyone using your IP as a VPN participating in illegal activities like accessing or distributing child porn or terrorism could make you to become a suspect. Given it is the internet connection you are billed for.

It's similar to having a friend come over and use your WiFi for some illegal shit. You are responsible for what is accessed.
That is what it was ... Hola. Precisely, you can be on the hook for illegal shit that someone from a foreign nation uses your IP to access. That is why I decided against signing on for free.
But from what I heard, Netflix were clamping down on those that were using it as it was setting a precedent at that time.

A good candidate is ProtonVPN. I would recommend paying for it. They have dedicated servers for streaming and P2P downloading. So that you can torrent via VPN. You can also install it on your phone.

Best one I have used is expressvpn. It is excellent for Netflix and other streaming apps. You can set it for any country you like and use Netflix without any restrictions. It works for various platforms firestick, Android and ios, also on the Apple tv 4. It's a bit on the pricey side of vpn but you do get one of the fastest tunneling for streaming. Would definitely recommend especially if you wanna get around the region restrictions for Netflix and even amazon prime movies.

It use to be great but now most content streaming services in the US have made it mandatory to have a US home address and credit card.
