"They Missed The Call" - Trump Plans To Withhold Money From WHO Over 'Botched' Crisis Response

After tweeting his criticism of the WHO earlier, President Trump brought up the NGO giant again during Tuesday night's briefing, reiterating that there is a plan in place to withhold some American financing for the organization.

The US is one of the WHO's biggest backers, along with China.

President Trump said Tuesday night that "we’re going to put a hold on money spent on the WHO."

He added that "they missed the call" on the coronavirus pandemic.

Journalists swiftly whipped out some memos from January that the WHO issued warning about the potential devastation to be caused by the novel coronavirus, memos published at a time that Trump was still playing down the crisis.

Of course, these 'impartial reporters' are ignoring the many criticisms and legitimate questions that have been raised about the WHOs motivations and objectives, along with the many mistakes it has been accused of making during the early weeks of the global response.

Remember when the WHO dragged its feet on labeling the novel coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency, before doing the exact same thing before finally admitting that the COVID-19 is officially a major pandemic with no precedents in the last 100 years. Most notoriously, it supported Beijing's claims that travel restrictions were 'racist', and claimed they were unnecessary during the early weeks of the outbreak.

Here's a reminder of who holds the purse strings...maybe Dr. Tedros can give it a look:

For many years, the assessed contribution for the US has been set at 22% of all member state assessed contributions, the maximum allowed rate. Over the last eight years, the US voluntary contributions have ranged from a low of $102 million in 2014 to a high of $401 million in 2017.

Later, during the Q&A, Trump slammed the WHO again for criticizing his decision to stop arrivals from China, which Trump said will help save "hundreds of thousands of lives" which might be just a slight exaggeration.

Remember when WHO claimed this Coronavirus doesn't have the capability to have human to human transfer...Trump is right to cut their funding...

I agree WHO should be disbanded but Bill Gates has been the man funding research for the vaccine and probably pledge to fund mass production of a working vaccine.

Dr. Glanville (in the Netflix series Pandemic) and head of Distributed Bio has a vaccine for covid-19 is funded by Bill Gates (almost $1M) for his research.

Actually Trump in theory would be right one this one. Canada let China in , which then went the USA which ended most of the benefit but had China been stooped millions of lives would have been saved over the next two years. Maybe there is still time to turn the tide we shall see. But do the math even at 1% kill rate is 300 k Canada and 3 million USA if the disease spreads. There is no cure, and the vacine is months away, and then production times costs come into play.

Assuming a spread like Influenza (this is worse) we got 55 million case in the USA last year, which is still 550 K dead - 1/2 a million in one country.

The reason medical professionals saw 3k dead as good is they can do the math -while true for April its ridiculously low and optimistic overall - Doug Ford is amazing if only 3 k die from this. The man should get a statue and I am not a fan generally.

Fact check: Trump makes misleading claims about the WHO and his record on the coronavirus

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/07/politics/fact-check-trump-coronavirus-briefing-april-7/index.html

Trump contradicted himself minutes later at question time. Trump is clueless what he stated when he went according to script!!

Even Dr Fauci even praised the President of the WHO!! Yes WHO has made mistakes but Trump has been a useless leader in the manner in which he has handled the crisis from the word go.

We now know not to rely on WHO for accurate data, we should act on our own like Taiwan and Hong Kong did. Cause this is going to happen again.

Singapore tackled it in the most effective manner. Remember that this is an unknown Pandemic, and China did coverup this Pandemic at the cost of the Whistleblower of a Doctor who paid for it with his own life.

But the WHO stating that China did a good job was terrible, just as Trump himself praised Xi and the manner in which he handled the whole crisis, especially after that Chinese Doctor had died after he became the victim of this Pandemic!!

THE WHO IS NOT AN NGO - it is a pan government organization an arm of the UN and is more an NGO than is interpol. Fuck, bad reporting./

As for the doctor and many others. He may have died from pandemic or from the PURGE.
China (or a rouge agency) is killing all they don't like or at least letting them die during this time of unrest. The Honk Kong cleaning house. Brave doctor. Hero regardless.

Call it a restructuring, since the WHO, is part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group and the UN is based in New York.
In the eyes of those pubic this "attack" on the "WHO" looks great, but this gives them room to "restructure now" and then Trump will say how "wonderful" it is.
Slick.

The whistleblower doctor in China did not follow strict protocols for reporting an outbreak of a new virus as stipulated by existing documentation which would prevent public panic. The rules are there to ensure someone does not start a stampede over something which ends up being false. The doctor was reprimanded and the Chinese government sent out an official notification after following and meeting their own protocalls and of course after the doctor hit the panic button. That is not an intentional delay it is being responsible, western medias spin on everything China does not constitute a conspiracy by the Chinese government.

On Dec. 30, Li sent out a warning over the WeChat messaging app advising fellow med school grads to wear protective clothing to avoid infection after several patients from a local seafood market exhibited symptoms similar to SARS.

December 31, 2019 - Cases of pneumonia detected in Wuhan, China, are first reported to the WHO. During this reported period, the virus is unknown. The cases occur between December 12 and December 29, according to Wuhan Municipal Health.
January 1, 2020 - Chinese health authorities close the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market after it is discovered that wild animals sold there may be the source of the virus.
January 5, 2020 - China announces that the unknown pneumonia cases in Wuhan are not SARS or MERS. In a statement, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission says a retrospective probe into the outbreak has been initiated.
January 7, 2020 - Chinese authorities confirm that they have identified the virus as a novel coronavirus, initially named 2019-nCoV by the WHO.
January 11, 2020 - The Wuhan Municipal Health Commission announces the first death caused by the coronavirus. A 61-year-old man, exposed to the virus at the seafood market, died on January 9 after respiratory failure caused by severe pneumonia.
