Will strip clubs survive COVID-19?

Considering that strip clubs have been in decline for years, I have to wonder if they'll still be viable when the dust finally settles. How long will it be before anyone is comfortable going into a dingy bar in order to trade $20s for some skin? It's not like they were hygienic places before. The owners must be in a bad place now, and the strippers even worse.

My understanding is that many strip clubs lose money but are owned by or affiliated with criminal organizations as money laundering hubs. A strip club is one of the easiest ways to clean dirty money.

If you owned a strip club and people brought you bags of money, how would you clean it?

I still see some clubs surviving after this pandemic. There will always be occasions to go to the strip joint: bachelor/bachelorette/birthday parties, entertaining relatives/guests/business associates visiting from out of town etc.

Many guys don't like to go the full distance with MAs/SPs so strip clubs serve as a good alternative.

I've lived in Ottawa about 25 years and in that time I've seen the following close in addition to the 2 already mentioned:

The place in Manotick, Jason's in Kanata, Club 61, Pink Panther, the place in Carlsbad Springs, Silver Dollar, a place in Brockville, one in Prescott, 2 or three in Cornwall, one in Riviere Baudette, Vaudreuil, Rigaud, Grenville and I think that place in Casselman. The industry is on the serious decline.

Cook the books to show the club made that amount of money in cash. Businesses that are mostly cash-based are a lot harder (but not impossible) to audit.

It was Fanny's on Bank Street before that. And then there was the Vendome/Valentino's and Habba Babba in Westboro.
Habba Babba - jeez, I remember that joint. That was open back in the 70s /early 80s?

The new generation cant get out of the house - all clubs are dying strip or not. Some will suffer but the social damage caused by a new culture of not getting out of the house as normal will kill more in the long run. Movie industry will also go the way of the CD industry - some lesser weaker form.

That’s the idea. Pay tax and legalize the cash.
Sounds like an expensive way to clean cash.
Plus a quiet club with the tax return of a bustling club would not be hard to spot.

I think it would be way easier and cheaper to wash cash in the renovation and construction industries.

The difficulty with the business model of the SC for money laundering is that they are having to pay rent and taxes on the property whit no revenue coming in. Yes, most commercial leases pass the property tax obligation on to the tenant. It seems that long term care facilities and nursing homes might be a safer bet to launder money in a time of pandemic.

I don't see Casino Cabaret lasting through this, they were shaky from the start, used to be Tease
I wouldn't be sure about that. You just have to do some research about the owner of the club and the owner of the building. Two different people. It will not close, some other person will be suckered into running it for the guy who owns the building and most of that part of Bank Street.
