Some things we might not be able to make for ourselves and we would still need to either import or continue manufacturing domestically for export...but I will make sure that I buy a vehicle that is at least manufactured in Canada. Also...I won’t buy a vehicle that is manufactured by a US auto maker.

Honda and Toyota make cars here in Canada.
So admit that your statement in regards to not having to trade with anyone nor they with us isnt a sensible suggestion?

BTW, Honda and Toyota dont MAKE their cars here. We merely ASSEMBLE them from GLOBALLY produced components. So no, we dont MAKE import cars in Canada.

Its like saying your German VW car assembled in Mexico is a great German car. Ugh.

Fine...there is the ideal of being entirely self sufficient...and then there is the reality of the world that we actually live in.

It still seems reasonable to aspire to be as self sufficient as possible.

I stand by my statement that it’s still a choice, though. If we had to we could live without automobiles and go back to using a horse and buggy like the Mennonites- they seem happy enough afaik. Perhaps not the choice everyone would make but it’s still an option for those who choose to do so.

Anyway...I’d rather buy a VW made in Mexico than a Ford made in Detroit.

Thats what I was trying to say.

Its nice to dream and hope but the reality is that those are just dreams and hopes unfortunately.

Would I love to live in a world like you mentioned? Oh fuck yea!

Is it reasonable? Fuck no :(

And if you were to ask me, none of those cars you mention are in my top 10.

Stuck in Lodi again
Trump was attacked for sending medical supplies to China when the crisis first started there, instead of keeping them for the U.S. Now he is being attacked for not sending medical supplies to other countries and wanting them for U.S. use. His critics just love to have it both ways. Whatever he decides is wrong in their minds.

!
If 3M had a plant in Ontario making masks and was exporting them to Florida during this crisis You would be throwing a leftist hyperbolic fit on here......Don't deny it.
So you answer the question by asking another question. Typical. I know that you right wingers went ballistic about masks etc. being donated to China. But now China has responded in the same manner:

https://globalnews.ca/news/6745817/china-donates-medical-supplies-canada/

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/wor...ns-of-masks-to-canada-as-supplies-grow-short/

Did I throw a hyperbolic fit then?? We know that countries around the globe have to come together during this time of crisis. So what Trump did is 100% wrong, greedy, and selfish just to boost his own popularity!! Anyway you have not stated whether Ford and Kenney were right or wrong in manner in which they attacked Trump's decision??

I feel sorry for you.

Ever wonder why there are shops dedicated to just fixing European cars??????

I have to laugh when a person buys a European car and complains about the price to maintain it....LOL

WHAT???!!! Why is my oil change $300????!!! LOL
my Audi's maintenance costs me nothing, it never break and routine stuff is free for the first 3 years. As far as oil changes after that, you think Jiffy Lube can't do German? Think again.

I was about say the Liberals gutted manufacturing in Ontario but I'd be accused of causing bver to have another hissy fit.

I having said that did anybody expect different from that asshat in the White House

He did it to put American lives first. His base will love him for it.

If Trudeau put Canadian lives first no one in Canada would admonish him for it all. I certainly wouldn't.
Again, were Doug Ford and Jason Kenny then considered to be wrong for admonishing Trump in this respect??

Emmm, it's spelled " you're" as in the contraction of "you are". Not your as in your foot in your mouth.

If you're going to pile on the derision about other people's intelligence on an internet forum, it's always best to use spell check.

And his base would love if he banned abortion.

As to Americans first, at this time we are all citizens of a global village.

Perhaps you’ve got a point.

Canadians made the mistake of buying into the idea that if we work collaboratively with other nations we can enhance our collective wellbeing. That model only works if you can trust your partners to buy into the same idea rather than acting like cunts. That was a mistake on our part.

If a fire breaks out in a crowded theatre a better result for everyone can be obtained if we exit the building in an orderly way. If it turns into an “every man for himself” scenario where everyone is stomping each other and climbing over each other’s backs to survive then more people will die. Even if you are the biggest, baddest dude in the theatre you hamper your own chances of survival by acting in a selfish manner.

Well...our friends south of the border have shown us who they are. We need to believe them and avoid theatres they are known to frequent...or just stay at home and watch the CBC.

His base would also love it if he started rounding up immigrants and putting them in death camps. Perhaps there is an opportunity here?
