Ford who is a fan of Trump blasted him.

"Ontario Premier Doug Ford was far less diplomatic in his reaction to the U.S. measure, blasting the Trump administration for trying to block essential medical equipment from coming to Canada."

The truth of the matter is that this is every country for itself. America, like Canada, is facing tremendous shortages of the basic supplies. They have gone to the incredible lengths to restart the domestic production, but it will be a month before the production is in full swing. It is completely reasonable for all available supplies to go to the American hospitals. It's what we would have done as well. We can be angry or our Prime Minister and Premier can do what Trump did- issue a call and a challenge to the Canadian manufacturers to step up. The much vilified Pillow Guy retooled his production in three days to produce 50k per day. Why can't we?

I am not sure, but I think the supplies were on the way and was diverted.

3M apparently has a facility in Canada but doesn't manufacture masks there. Retool so that it does and roll it out to Canadians.

Trump has no choice but to look at out for Americans in an emergency situation. We should produce what we can for ourselves just like they are.

Or we can complain about the bad Americans. Bitching about Trump just makes it more fun.

Great, but with the grandstanding out of the way, how does this help anyone?

Put yourself in Trump's position. Your country has a shortage of PPE. Why in the fuck would you allow manufacturers to sell outside of U.S. instead of your own country? The virus is far more serious in the US they have 300,000+ cases to our 13,000.
The fact that Canada does not have one manufacturer who can make these is absolutely appalling and a lack of leadership and foresight from our legislators.

Trump has not enacted emergency powers, he has no authority to bar 3M from importing anything. He can only make a request.

Will America return to normal by Easter? Trump delayed implementing emergency measures, even now he has no national policy on how to deal with the virus outbreak. For every case he cause with his delay each one case multiplied exponentially the number of infections. He put his country and the world in jeopardy. Trump may be responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people.

Except that equipment produced in China destined for Germany was intercepted (pirated) by USA.

Lesson learned: Do not rely on products from USA.

100% right. Newfoundland should never have helped those Americans on the airplanes right after 9/11. It wasn't our damn problem.

And look at the thanks we get.

Then maybe we need to recall our nurses and doctors that live in Windsor and cross the border every day to work in 'murican hospitals.

Every country for itself.

Get used to it. Today it's every nation for itself. Tomorrow it's every man for himself....

That's where you're wrong, respectfully. That day is already here. Most just don't know it, yet.

I’ve read that the pulp used to make the actual mask is shipped from BC pulp mills to 3M’s plant in Minnesota. Maybe it’s time we stop the pulp shipments.

A contract is a contract is a contract and if 3M already signed that contract to deliver the masks, then they should have honoured their contract. I am sure if there were supplies bound for the USA from Canada and if the Canadian Government stepped in to block it, then Trump would rightly have gone ballistic. There are medical staff that cross the border to work in the USA hospitals. Canada can state that they require their services very urgently, and can divert them to Canadian Hospitals instead!!
