Aircraft carrier captain to be removed from duty after pleading for help with coronavirus outbreak: report
BY REBECCA KHEEL
The captain of an aircraft carrier struggling with a coronavirus outbreak will reportedly be relieved from command after a letter he penned pleading for help leaked to the media.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, Reuters reported Capt. Brett Crozier is expect to be relieved from command of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, with one official saying a formal announcement could come as soon as Thursday.
Crozier wrote a letter to Navy leaders that was obtained and published by the San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday, showing him warning of dire consequences if most of the sailors on Roosevelt aren’t evacuated.
Officials told Reuters he would be relieved from command because the Navy believes he is one who leaked the letter, not because he wrote it.
