I like to think when the Leafs stole the Cup from the Habs in 1967 was one of the worst defeats in Habs history. The Leafs dubbed too old and too slow, lost 10 games in a row in the regular season, huge underdogs, banded together to go on a playoff run. 1967 Montreal was Canada's largest city and it was Canada's 100th year and Expo was in Montreal that summer. The Habs wanted to have the Cup displayed at Expo but the Leafs ruined that plan.

Montreal Canadiens 1 vs Detroit Red Wings 11, Dec. 2, 1995

Canadiens fans recall this contest not just because of the score, but because it was the last straw for Patrick Roy in Montreal. Left in for nine goals against, once he was mercifully yanked by coach Mario Tremblay, Roy famously told Ronald Corey that he had played his last game for the Canadiens. The rest is history.

It was the end of one dynasty and the beginning of another.

As a Hab used to the annual Stanley Cup parade in downtown Montreal year after year it was a bitter pill to swallow.

Leaf fans will never unfortunately be able to relate to this in this lifetime.
