What real influence did Canada exercise in overturning a Government in Venezuela?

Every single Party leader in Canada would have an opinion in that respect. The Conservatives would definitely take the same stand. But I do not see an alternative to Trudeau at the moment.

Do you, and who?
Canada created the Lima Group of countries, and as chair of the group had quite a bit of influence, or at least headlines, when Ms. Friedland aggressively called for regime change and immediately recognized the puppet.

When I voted for the Liberal party last time, there was no call for regime change in Venezuela in their program.

I agree that the Conservatives would be worse, and I will not vote NDP, so I am sort of stuck. But how else can I protest what the Government did?

Vote for the Communist candidate.
I actually once voted for the Trotskyist candidate in my riding. He got 3 votes, I suspect the other two were himself and his SO.

Being a anti woke pragmatist the liberal party and Justin Trudeau are far to left for me to vote for.

However the conservatives have also been a disappointment. They have lacked strong leadership for a long time now.

But my guess is that I will vote conservative just for a change.

Trudeau is just an out of touch, spoiled trust fund baby.
He seems to ignore the rule of law to satisfy his buddies in Quebec.
Wasted billions buying a pipe dream of a pipeline.
Showed no backbone during the rail blockades.
Tried to sneak in a "spend and tax as we see fit" clause into the Covid-19 bailout package.
Driving up our national debt at a record pace. This is before the Covid-19 crisis.
Alienates our fellow country men out west.
Carbon tax....enough said.

So my answer is hell NO.

Trudeau's Approval rating for the manner in which he is handling this Pandemic is as high as 65%. Better than Trump's 53%!!

Keep up the good work Trudeau. The numbers in Canada as compared to the USA spells it all out. Yet these Trudeau haters seem to frequent this Board and no way represents the true Canadian feelings during this crisis!!

The greater population of the US, the bigger cities, and the greater number of foreign visitors accounts for the larger number of infections. Trudeau can't take credit for the lesser number in Canada because he did nothing till two weeks ago. The only people who like him are Muslims, not Canadians.

The USA has ten times the population of Canada, but far higher percentage for those affected and have died, by the Corona Virus when compared to Canada. That is a fact and let's stick to it facts rather than blatant hatred!! 65% of Canadian s must be "Muslims" in that case. This is Trudeau's approval rating for the handling of this Epidemic!!

Trudeau acted when Canada was much further down the curve than the US.
He acted faster, more decisively and smarter.
Give it a few weeks to see if it worked.

Your pal Ford has a higher approval rating than Justin, lol.

According to the ARI poll, however, more Canadians in every region of the country thought their provincial governments were doing a good job. In Ontario, 74 per cent of respondents reported that Premier Doug Ford's government was handling things well, a number that was also corroborated by the Léger poll.

Geez Beav that's got to be a real kick in the nuts for you!!

As I stated, this does not mean that either of these will get elected. It is to be expected in this crisis that the leader's approval ratings will reflect the support from the people. We have seen that with Bush Junior in Iraq, that is until the lies were exposed. Bush Senior got as high as a 90% Approval rating for invading Kuwait and kicking out the Iraqis. He subsequently lost to Clinton in the following elections. Now Quebec's Premier has over 90% Approval. The highest for any leader in the world, although they have Canada's highest incidents of this virus. Nearly all the Premiers have very high Approval ratings.

Have you seen me criticize Ford's handling of this Pandemic?? If so show me!! I said that all of us should support our leaders at this time. So this ridiculous message about "kick in the nuts" should be directed to the right wingers for a change. They are the ones constantly lashing out at Trudeau for goodness knows what reason, especially at this really sad time for this nation. Maybe now you get it!!

This is nothing to do with his normal duties. All about this Corona Virus, show me where I have lashed out at him like the right wingers have done so against Trudeau?? Why do you not speak up against them for a change??

As I thought, at times like this when we should support whatever is being tirelessly achieved by both Provincial or Federal Governments, this is when we should come together to do so. That is why the polls reflect it. Not the usual hatred propaganda against the PM!!

Both Trudeau and Ford have shown themselves well in this corona crisis. Trump has been a total disaster.

No, I have told the Liberal party, that they will not get my vote anymore, because the Liberal Government has aggressively supported regime change in Venezuela. I don't think it is Canada's role to decide what government Venezuela or any other country should have. Do we want another country to overturn our government if it does not like it?
danmand, I, like Frankfooter, appreciate your strong views regarding this. However, I feel referring to it as a "regime change" may be an oversimplification. Instead, it's trying to provide basic democracy and freedoms to the Venezuelan people. If the U.S. supported Sheer over Trudeau(as you suggest in another post) they are simply supporting option A over option B, without denying Canadians the right to choose for themselves. Just my 2 cents.

To answer the op, I'd vote Liberal because politically I'm middle of the road. Trudeau is a bit left of center for me, and not perfect, but a lot better than the alternatives.

I won't vote for Trudeau, I didn't vote in the last election because I didn't like the other options, Hopefully the Cons will choose someone better than Scheer.
