No sports on TV. How are you filling the time?

    To all you sports fans,

There is literally nothing interesting to watch on the sports channels and actually, I have no idea how are they going to fill the time if this lasts even 2 months. There are only so many blooper reels, reruns of old events, human interest stories and the "experts" speculating about when things will resume that they can show.

I estimate I probably spend 20-25 hours a week watching sports and sports reporting. That is now basically zero. That's a big chunk of time to fill. On top of that, I am worn down with all the news of corona pandemic, primaries and stock market crashes, so the news stations are pretty much gone as well. The rest of cable TV is pretty crap. Maybe a bit of Food Network. I feel like I'm becoming very chummy with Guy Fieri.

Fortunately, I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I finished watching Man in the High Castle, Better Call Saul and The Hunters. On my To See list is: Goliath, Fargo, Vikings, Jack Ryan etc. And, of course, I have more time to spend on TERB to communicate, pontificate, debate and irritate, including a certain Mr. Charming, which is actually a lot of fun. Can't wait for the weather to start improving so I can try to get out on the golf course as much as possible. Medical appointments are also good time fillers.

    Anybody else?

Myself personally, I have become extremely knowledgeable on the career of Muhammad Ali. I’ve watched every documentary. I’ve watched tons of fights, in chronological order for his career. I’ve tried to pinpoint exactly where the brain damage started, and the slurred speech started, (I believe this would’ve been the Ernie Shavers fight) which sadly ended up as severe Parkinson’s. I even watched his guest appearance in season 2 of Different Strokes.....twice. YouTube has become my best friend. I’ve watched Rumble In The Jungle documentaries. I’ve watched Thrilla In Manila documentaries. Every Ali interview with Howard Cosell. I feel like I could enter a 70s heavyweight boxing trivia contest, and probably win!

I’ve become so knowledgeable about the heavyweight division in the 70s. What an exciting time this would’ve been to be a boxing fan. I grew up on Tyson, Hollyfield and Lewis, and that doesn’t even compare to the 70s in my opinion.

    YouTube sailing channels.

Try Sailing Ruby Rose. Pleasant uplifting and informative.

Diablo 3 season twenty just started. Cleaned my house and planning more to get ahead of spring cleaning.
I endorse Senator Bernie Sanders for President in 2020.

It is my hope Tulsi Gabbard becomes his running mate.

The Crown. Claire Elizabeth Foy as the young Queen Elizabeth and John Lithgow as Winston Churchill in some of the finest character portrayals ever recorded. Thanks, Netflix.

Nature documentaries, especially predators, on YouTube. Thanks, YouTube.

Order cancellations have materialized already so communicating more frequently with my customers to mitigate the oncoming disaster. Cursing coronavirus.

Been going to the golf dome recently to tune up. Can't wait for warmer weather and the season to start hopefully in a few weeks.
    Has anyone seen Mike Litoris?

This is the time of year we go through major withdrawal. I'm booked mid-April for Myrtle but I suspect that there's a good chance the border may be closed.

Maybe no shared power carts. Do not pull flags otherwise you have to sterile wipe them and your hands. And don't touch anybody else's balls.

I can give up Netflix, Amazon Prime, Tubi, Asian Crush and even Disney (my niece just adores it).

However, of all the streaming services, The Criterion Channel is the one I can never let go. I live and die here.

What I love is how a major talent is selected (William Wyler, Juliette Binoche, Akira Kurosawa) and the channel will create a package of films devoted specifically. Double features, themes, packages, all sorts of options.

If you truly are interested in film as Art and want more than only one perspective on it, this is the channel for you.

Trust me, the price is right and it will not be a waste of time. Especially now, with time at hand.

Poker is the most frustrating game on the planet. More frustrating then golf. I lost 50 today. The runs in poker can be unbelievable at times. Two days ago, seemed no matter what I did, I was making the right move either finishing in the money or winning the tournaments. (6 max sit-n-go's) Now no matter what I do, it's the wrong move and the luck is the other way. I have a flush to the Q, I lose to flush K. I pocket KK, I lose to A,7. I have pocket 10's, the guy behind me has pocket JJ's. It's fucking crazy man.

The Criterion Channel, I'm still with Rogers, is it available.

The lack of sports is beginning to bite - no Tim and Sid. I've been getting caught up with the latest misadventures of Lorenzo David. Without the Mighty Super Dave, I didn't want to watch S10 of Curb Your Enthusiasm. They've upped their game, they were starting to become to reliant on the genius of Bob Einstein.

Don't know about Rogers, Bell or any of those services. I don't subscribe to them.

All channels, music and streaming services I enjoy go thru my Roku box.

It's a one time purchase about $50 and it's a whole new world of options.

Never heard of criterion. Thanks. May I offer GAIA as an interesting choice. Great stuff on psychedelics and lots of alternative docs

Concerning OP I seldom watch sports or TV. Internet is far more interesting

That's why I posted it here. The virus affects what sports fans watch more than any other demographic.

I don't miss any sports at all, and sadly I don't miss the Leafs at all.
I especially don't miss all the nonsense on sports talk radio and other media that fills your head, I feel like I'm just
zeroed in to my own life and my own personal experiences and work and it's actually more relaxing.

Gotta agree with you. I've never been one to stay glued to the TV (or 'The Idiot Box' as my old man used to call it) for any serious length of time. My real life is just way too interesting by comparison, and frankly, I'm too busy for much TV anyway.

Some seem like they can't survive without TV, sports, and the internet. Total Societal Zombies. Right now, they must really be suffering.

    Leafs????

I know Toronto has a baseball team, basketball, cricket and rugby teams.

    These "Leafs" would be what...?

I don't miss the Leafs at all but I was looking forward to the baseball season. The Jays could do some damage this year, their pitching staff looked good in spring training.

As for superior types who cast dispersion on sports fans, why even bother? As Neil Young said, "you're all just pissing against the wind, you're no better than me for what you are".

Awesome reference. I forget which song but it was from the album On the Beach. He mentions The Riverboat.

The song is Ambulance Blues, the last track on On the Beach. Not long after Harvest, Niel was stricken with vocal chords polyps and could not sing. The albums On the Beach and Tonight's the Night are reflections of Neil getting in touch with his mortality. Commercially they are considered failures, personally they are two of his best works.

The reference comes from him returning to TO and finding it desolate except for the Farmer's Market.
