Their response is going to be a boon to the funeral home business. Try to look on the bright side.

The response of the Canadian government has been very stupid.

Then done nothing, except the bare minimum to cover their civil servant asses.

Does anyone seriously think there is enough hospital beds, ICU beds, respirators, and medical equipment like the simple N95 mask - for the deluge that will hit?

We got to remember who is our neighbour, and they have done next to nothing (except tax cuts and more QE, which I approve, next UIB!). They could not even do the testing in a manner that showed that they actually gave a shit.

An opinion from a medical health professional on the front lines in this Toronto Sun article.

Trudeau has done what is expected of him. That is bury his head in the sand and hope it goes away.
Flights from high risk countries are still coming into Canada.
Provincial and local governments have done more and shown more leadership than that selfie loving twit of a PM.

I think many in this forum would agree that Trudeau and Trump are idiots but the medical experts are making the decisions, not the idiots in leadership positions. I think most of us will survive this because the medical experts in Canada, the U.S. And the U.K. (Where they are more open about the strategy they are using) are using a strategy called herd immunity. Let the majority who will not die from the virus get infected, treat the vulnerable and let herd immunity also protect the vulnerable. See below a definition of Herd immunity.

Herd immunity (also called herd effect, community immunity, population immunity, or social immunity) is a form of indirect protection from infectious disease that occurs when a large percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, thereby providing a measure of protection for individuals who are not immune.[1][2] In a population in which a large number of individuals are immune, chains of infection are likely to be disrupted, which stops or slows the spread of disease.[3] The greater the proportion of individuals in a community who are immune, the smaller the probability that those who are not immune will come into contact with an infectious individual.[1]

Trudeau is leading by example.
He self quarantined after contact and didn't panic.

Trump is out there spreading the disease personally, shaking hands, refusing tests and breaking every rule to try to slow it down.

China and Italy are doomed to lose a lot of lives because they are trying to contain the virus ditrectly, which cannot be done.

Incoming flights from China should have been halted months ago, and flights from South Korea, Iran and Italy should have been stopped as soon as it became obvious things were spiraling out of control in those countries. Bottom line is we waited too long.

Trudeau has done a much better job than Trump. Trump has provided nothing but misleading information from day 1. Then he tries to shut the stable doors after the horses have bolted!!

As for Canada, everything is in place. The USA has ten times more cases as compared to Canada, while their testing has lagged pathetically behind. There are 40 deaths from this virus in the USA!!

Agreed, but ultimately we are just buying time as there is no cure for this no virus or treatment not yet. The pandemic was inevitable and things are changing globally every few days.

Poor Americans, the impact of Trump's Flight Bans:

Americans now paying up to $20,000 to get back home:

At least one American looking to return home from travel abroad was left to pay as much as $20,000 for a last-minute flight after President Donald Trump banned travel between the United States and Europe. New York Times reporter Mike McIntire said in a Twitter thread Thursday he only knows about the hefty price tag because a ticket agent shared the news with him to provide some sense of comfort.

McIntire and his wife were asleep in a Paris hotel room when they got word of Trump’s announcement Thursday via a 2:15 AM call from their daughter. She told the couple the ban would go into effect just before midnight Friday, so McIntire hopped online to try to move he and his wife’s Saturday flights back to New York City, but that didn't work initially. “Called Delta and was told there was 4-hr wait time to speak to someone,” he tweeted. “Looked at buying completely new tickets for today or Friday and saw prices rising and tickets disappearing before my eyes. Fearing the worst if we did nothing, I pulled the trigger on new tickets that cost more than my monthly mortgage payment.”

That might have been the end of his story if almost any qualified president were in office. “But wait! The TV says Trump erred and Americans are actually NOT covered by the ban,” McIntire tweeted. “I scramble to cancel the tickets I just bought and cannot. Delta and Amex Travel web sites won’t let me. Calls are made. Delta now has 6-hr wait, Amex plays music for two hours and disconnects”

Another couple, Dora Dynov and Alec Huxford, told Buzzfeed News they were hoping to celebrate their engagement in Paris and ended up paying more than $4,600 trying to desperately return home to New Jersey. "We packed within minutes and immediately went to the airport in case it got super hectic. We sat at the airport for 7+ hours before our flight," Dora Dynov told the news site. "Exhausted truly isn’t even the word."

It’s a feeling McIntire soon came to know well. After trying to force the internet to oblige him, the journalist decided to go to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport with his wife instead to try to at least recoup some of their money, but when they showed up McIntire said there were about 100 people in line. “It was obvious that in the hours it would take to finally reach the customer service counter, our flight would have already left,” McIntire said in a New York Times story about the incident. “We debated what to do. Looking around at the growing chaos that seemed destined to intensify in the coming days, we swallowed hard and pulled out our gold-plated economy tickets.”

The agent who checked the couple’s bags told them they weren’t alone and that the passenger who paid $20,000 for flights was also trying to cancel the tickets. “Fortified with that tale of someone else’s woe, we boarded the flight to New York, joining other frazzled Americans, wiping down seat armrests with sanitizer and wondering if being home would really be any safer than staying away,” McIntire said in his New York Times piece. At least he got a free peach Bellini on the flight, he tweeted.

Except that Trump stopped flights from China in JANUARY and no people travelling from Iran were admitted into America from that time, either while our Prime Minister was hopping around Africa bribing for the UN seat. Btw, China and Iran were THE early hot spots. We had infected people arrive here from Iran as late as last week. But, don't let that stop you, please continue: Orange man bad.

What has Trump done to you personally? You don't even know him and can't even vote against him. He has done nothing to affect you at all, an incel living in your Mom's basement with over 30,000 gripes on an escort site, where you have contributed nothing to the actual aim of this site, "Escort Reviews."

For those of you who think Trudeau has done a bad job during this crisis you would have to agree that Trump has been 100 times worse.
The man started off by calling this whole thing a hoax and during his national emergency speech he got a couple things wrong and had to clarify them later.

Containment by banning flights is at best a delaying tactic. There is very little evidence it would work to stop the virus. At best it buys time to prevent the cases from spiking. Right now, the Canadian situation does not look like it is spiking at an Italian level.
